At the moment Lee and Novak are in the driving seat. In fact I'm thinking Alan lee should be getting offered a contract extension if he's going to play like he is all season. Rhodes will always come on and play the last 25 minutes, which might suit him when everyone else has got tired by then.
I do think we should be adding another striker tho' through the loan market. Competition for places is bringing the best out of everyone at the moment, but the minute we have an injury or suspension to a striker we end up with no other options and no more competition for places. A loanee on board would need a few weeks to get gelled into our playing philosophy so if we can find a suitably experienced and pacey striker we should move now, while we are hot.
I'm with Jacko 'eMBee'.
Lee, with Novak, when he's 8ugg3r3d, Rhodes on as a fresh pair of legs.
re- a lonee, forgive my ignorance . Is Afobe still at Arsenal & in the reserves ? Just a thought,
Imagine him leeching of the new slim line Lee.
phenomenal pairing in this league don't you think.
The only time our front line has looked decent is with Novak playing. I'm not his biggest fan but no team without Novak has looked the part so he plays most games if i'm picking the team.
As for a loan player, they would be coming as 4th choice, nothing else would be fair on the players here and currently doing very well. So if we are talking a 4th choice striker Cads is more than good enough, had he been on the bench last night he would have done a job for 30 minutes and similar situations that we will come across. So no new players Lee, was have already had about 20 signings too many.
Mouth watering??????
You still thinking about that pie Tez?
The thin g about Rhodes and Novak is they are completely different annimals
Rhodes is an ambush predator , hes not the biggest or the strogest, what he does find a weakness or waits for a mistake and then he pounces , hes very good at it , his scoring record speaks for itself.
Novak on the other hand is an apex predator , he runs you to ground and gives you a good shake until you stop moving then gives you another shake just to be sure
they both have there place in the world...and this season is still young i think they will both have important roles to play
The way he runs around, rushing defenders, causing havoc etc, he is a lot like Craig Macail Smith.
But not has good if we can be honest pls
plenty of time arro
them pies were gorgeous honest
BOTH NOVAK GOALS WERE "PREDATOR" TYPE GOALS..
he also ran his ars- off..
it leaves jordan, on the bench..
Booooothy..I think we should keep the pressure on the strikers with a quality loanee. My reason is that we really should go for it this season, and making do with Cads won't fill the role of Alan lee, who is proving the perfect foil for Rhodes and Novak. Lee is accumulating bookings and if Rhodes and/or Novak are also suspended or injured or even Rhodes away with scotland we would be struggling.
A loanee would have to take his turn with our other strikers, but could be used as a sub for the last 20-30 mins to give the likes of Lee a rest. The danger is Lee will burn out at the rate he's working at the moment.
Competition for places needs to be intense and now LC is playing 2 up top each game, we only have 1 recognised striker left. We've plenty of money in the kitty from Pelts/Pilks to pay for someone who would really bring a buzz to the club, and like I said before someone in the Lee mould, big, strong and who can knock centre backs about a bit so Novak/Rhodes can feed off him. Cads doesn't provide that , he's more of a winger to me, and not tall enough.
It would also show we are serious about going for it this year, which is beginning to look like we are shaping up for a good season. LC had 4 recognised strikers last season, plus Cads, yet played 1 up top a lot..if he's now playing 2 up top more often then why would we go with one striker less than last year.
Another Loanee will only appease fans if he plays though!
Look over last two seasons and Lee Clark has signed
Krystian Pearce
Sean Morrison
Liam Cooper
All these players were subsequently benched and the fans asked why have they been signed. Now with the bench having less numbers would this be just another striker picking up a wage from us and L/C getting stick for signing him? If supensions do come in we do still have Cads (for now), but also both Ward and McDermott can play just behind a striker. The squad we have gives so L/C so many options now, so signing another striker now when we a scoring goals seems daft. Come January then we might expect to see a little movement.....just might.
38 Years..........
Spot on about Novak t'other night
We really are a fickle bunch aren't we?
I like this positive thinking, don't get me wrong, although it seems that 1 good game has had a massive change on the general feeling on here. I think we aught to calm down a bit, of course we should take the positives from the last game but 1 game is not enough for the mood to swing so strongly the way it has......a bit of consistency on here would be nice, seen as that what everyone seems to ask of Clarke and the team. If we loose its not the end of the world, if we win then we aren't the greatest team to grace league one for the last decade, but how it appears on here there is no middle ground only the dizzy heights following a good win or the horrible lows following a draw!
we can play donaldo ward or roberts as a striker if it comes to it so weve got plenty options. also the academy players like cham.
derby just enjot the positivity for the time it lasts or bugga off. no place for negativity. and your attemps to encourage it!
Must admit it's good to see some positivity. I know that one poster has decided not to post anymore due to the negativity on here, so lets enjoy it whilst we can. Another good result on Sat though and the feel good factor should start to return. After t'other night even 38 Years is starting to feel the love again.......for now
Tez, how did you get that I am encouraging negativity from my previous post? I though I made it quite clear that I like the positivity, I just dislike the constant swing from "we won't win anything if we play like this, woe is me" and "there is no way we won't be top come the end of the season" it just gets boring people flitting from one side of the fence to the other game by game.
I think Derby does have a good point that we shouldnt get carried away but it is nice to able to be on here and not get depressed all the time.
I dont think its just one game either, things have been improving and what I saw on Saturday wasnt perfect but was a hell of a lot better then previous games. Things seem to be coming together and a win on Saturday could put us top of the league so if that isnt something to get positive about I dont know what is!
I must admit I was worried we may drop off after a good season like Carlisle, Oldham and others have done previously and Bournemouth are doing this year so being still up there in contention for the top spot is great and hope we can put a run together now.
I also find it interesting that after all the talk of the big money move for Bowdich, Novak has scored more goals in the League and wont even be on the radar of top clubs just yet.
Rhodes will still more often than not start when we're at home, which I'm okay with because the matches usually suit him. However, even though he does seem fitter and stronger, his style of play is still not suited to away matches and the bullying of Lee or the running of Novak, or a combination of both, is much better suited to playing away from home where we won't be having the lions share of possession.
Footballers, and srikers in particular, depend on confidence and right now Novak and Lee are both very confident, and are noticeably enjoying playing, they have the starting shirts for the time being and no doubt Rhodes will be itching to displace one of them. That can only be a good thing!
Totally agree Cas. Now if we can get all 3 with 20+ goals a season.....
Sorry I went into dream land then but you can but hope!
Has any team ever finished a season with 3 20+ strikers?
Is Mirf around to tell us
I dont think we need a loanee to put pressure on the strikers as i dont think the strikers who started on tuesday need pressure to motivate them
they both had very disappointing season last year for various reason and i think Lee wants to prove hes still a good player and i think Novak is just the kind of player who goes for it all the time
Agree MN,
We don't need another striker, as the ones we have can score goals. With the options of...
Cads
McDermott
Ward
who can all play behind one striker, why sign another just for the sake of it!
Come January though and Cads could have gone by then (rumours) then yes, if we are still up there then thats the best time to strengthen where L/C sees fit
I don't see the harm in getting another striker on loan. Yes we've brought a lot of players in, but if we get a striker in who is as good or better than what we have now, then it can only be beneficial.
All it takes is one of our 3 strikers to get injured in a time when we're playing in cup competitions and our strike force will be stretched.
Don't get me wrong I'm more than happy with what we have up front, especially having watched the game on Tuesday, but Novak and Rhodes have been injury prone in the past and we wouldn't want that to jeopardise our season when we could get cover in on loan.
