Hope The Telegraph are scrutinizing every MP's tax affairs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It sounds like she messed up what is probably a usable loop hole for the wealthy when done correctly. The sad truth is millions upon millions are no dount being legally avoided by MPs from both sides. That's what the UK is when it comes to tax.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There isn’t a loophole. You’re either liable or you’re not.
Sound legal advice will tell you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I honestly don't know. But from what I could guess, if you put the home into trust and remove your name (but still live there) you can get around the second home tax? From what it sounds like she failed to properly "legally" remove herself. Whether you live there or not being irrelevant if you pull a legal fast one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My understanding is that because it was held in trust for children; as a result in a legal sense she was therefore obliged to remain as part owner and couldn’t simply “remove herself” as others without the trust and/or with children named as benefactors be able to.
Again, legal advice would clear that up. I don’t genuinely believe she was given incorrect advice at all.

She certainly tried to avoid tax and ended up evading it (because of poor advice). How does that look for a party that was so hot on tax avoidance when in opposition?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s easy to make noise in opposition.
One hundred points for anyone who can identify the last UK government to deliver serious and successful measures against a non-trivial element of tax avoidance or tax evasion…
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then don't fight an election on it. Conservative don't fight an election on tax, ever. We all know the reason why.

Bad as everyone (I think) agreed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And yet she has not resigned and ministers are lining up to defend her without thinking about the overarching picture, specifically the use of trusts to avoid tax. I can imagine the chancellor standing up for the Autumn statement, trying to raise taxes by pretending she is only making a fairer system. I wonder if the Labour Party have any competent advisors who aren't stuck up their arses.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think everyone agreed she should resign. Imo she should be pushed out if unwilling to (unsure if others agree on that)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don’t see how she can continue as the court of “public opinion” simply won’t accept what she claims as a result of her taking every opportunity to lambast others and giving them the “no excuse” line.
