how can the unbeaten run have cost us promotion. id rather draw games than lose them which is what happened first half of the season. how about an interesting topic for a change instead of the usual bull!
The points return in the unbeaten run was excellent, had it been the same in the first half of the season we would have been promoted. We won games we did not deserve to win but we still won them, so no the run did not cost us imo.
However, next season no way should such a negative approach continue. With 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw it's common sense that wins with a few defeats is preferable to staying unbeaten. I have said it many times before, it's draws that cost promotion not defeats. However, forgetting the manner of how they were achieved, the results speak for themselves since the turn of the year, only a freakish run from Southampton and a dodgy linesman cost us promotion.
I think you'll find there are Several Valid Answers to your question T4L ~ I'll wager many a Stats Wo/Man could in fact make a solid case for nigh on proving that it did .. ~ ~
As for interesting articles .. Please ~ Be Our Guest .. Put one or two up there .. I will certainly post on and support them ..
How about an article from you based on Next Seasons fixture list . ?
Boots, the fixtures are announced a week today, I'm waiting until then to book my summer holiday to ensure I don't miss a decent match while I'm away!
The unbeaten run didn't cost us promotion, Lee Clarks obsession with maintaining it might have. He was much more interested in not losing than he was in actually trying to win matches. He became a dour negative manager and hopefully he will have learnt his lesson.
The lesson to be learnt is simple - we are much better than most teams in this league, take the 3 points off them when we have the chance and we won't need the bloody playoffs next time!
Yiou don't chase an unbeaten run, Bootsy, and it is naive to think you do. However you do go out trying above all else not to lose.
If you're asking whether we shjould have taken more risks, then I'd have to say yeah. But that's hindsight for you - it's never actually helpul. It's just an irritant. A bit like these threads I suppose....
At some point the "post-mortem" has to stop and the looking forward has to start - I am bored of wondering what went wrong, looking at various permutations of what would have happened if ABC changed etc.
I am, though, excited about next year and quiet impatient to get going. At least that way we'll have new reasons for debate, rather than tired old re-hashes of tired old arguments by tired old 606ers....
Grim has a point there Boots!
Think it's time to look forward now and not back! What's happened has happened, so lets move on to next season!
With respect ~ Please Do pay more attention to what an article says/asks guys .. after all this one's in no way lengthy ..
It clearly has a Sub Heading and asks questions about ~
Looking Forward To Next Season ..
Whilst we're all of us well aware that ~ The Past does not equal the future ~ I'm sure most of us will agree that we have to reflect on previous campaigns to ~
Prepare & Plan for the future ..
The planning for the future (next season) is happening Boots!
With the new signing already unveiled, it suggests the club is well into planning for next season and with no doubt more to come please let them do their job! Then we can pick the bones out of it!
Next friday for the fixtures, numpty !
jkbbf..
pull your head out of boots's bottom hole will ya!
~ J K B B Fan ~ ? ? ? Who are ya ~ Who are ya .. ~ ~
Anyways personally my opinion is ~ If L C didn't learn that being Afraid To Go For The Wins even at the risk of Losing occasionally is a strategy doomed to failure then indeed we are in for another term of angst & anxiety ..
Any Simple Personal SWOT ~ (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) ~ Analysis of his own performance as our Manager last Season should highlight this to him ..
But is he capable of ever learning .. ? .. I think 2 and a half years of his involvement tell me not .. alas others do think differently and whilst this KEY Aspect of towns affairs are (seemingly) set to drag on for some time yet It will sooner or later have to be tackled head on & in a meaningful way
I conclude being scared of criticism and sticking so rigidly to that unbeaten run quest cost us dear ~ 10 Mill Plus dear ..
