I tend to separate plastics from true supporters. Your average plastic glory fan probably goes to watch his chosen team once in a blue moon while a supporter will go and watch his team week in week out regardless of results, weather or league position.

What I do struggle to understand is those that travel hundreds of miles to regularly watch a team just because they are successful when they have a local club on their doorstep.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I know what you're getting at goldi, but I assume you dont just mean people travelling hundreds of miles to watch a team. You presumably mean people travelling such distances to a location they have no geographical or family connection with. I haven't lived in Wolverhampton for 60 years but was born and bred there, and attended St Lukes school. I first stood on the South bank round about 1957 and have been a massive supporter since that day.

On Saturday I will be doing a round trip of approximately 300 miles to watch us progress to the 4th round of the FA Cup.

In beween those two days I like almost all of us have had a few days of exhilaration and, sadly, many more of despair. None of those down days have or could ever affect the strength of the ties I have with MY club

COMB

No I get that, I lived in the south west for a while but didn't change my allegiance to Bristol City. I was referring more to those that are brought up in football towns and still choose to buy Chelsea or Man U shirts.

Conversely I've started seeing on facebook, lads I went to school with who were definitely not Wolves fans back then who are jumping on our bandwagon now and posting stuff like they've been lifelong fans.

Where we they when we were shat?

I did get it. Just found it funny.

Much prefer 'if chicken is on the 50 in the canal'.

I was most definitely a plastic fan when I turned my back on my Dad's beloved Walsall (my home team) seduced by the dazzling success of Wolverhampton Wanderers. I was only 9 years old though so cut me some slack!
As the years went by and things went downhill I was a victim of my own plasticity for has gold and black blood by then and no other team was ever going to turn my head again.
Now as we stand on the cusp of greatness again I can stand tall and be proud that this one time plastic has earned the title lifelong Wolves supporter.

It's not all for Glory
I had a mate Birmingham born and bred supported the blues his favourite player as a kid was a chap called Fred Pickering Birmingham sold him to Blackpool so this might of mine packed up Birmingham and decides he's Blackpool supporter when he got old enough for a motorbike license he buys himself a Honda 50 then goes up to Blackpool regular from Birmingham to support his team
on the way back from a night game he breaks down at Penkridge by the side of a canal and hadthe bright idea if chicken is on the 50 in the canal and claiming on the insurance so he chucked it in the canal and then phoned his dad to come and fetch him.
tells his dad what he done and his dad says you blooming idiot you've only got third party !
true story they're not very bright plastics

Brilliant story Wolfgang made me laugh did that

Gem, I wouldn't call you plastic, you chose a local team you can actually attend and stuck by it.

If you had chosen Chelsea, you could only attend once in a blue moon, then very plastic.

Just posted a few bits on a financial thread, loving the fact they all think Wolves are nothing still and chuckled at the thought of us even having money.

I rest in the knowledge they went away and googled us when i mentioned being fifth richest owner in english footy in guo and 98 billion worth of backing from fosun beyond that

Poor lambs don't know what is about to hit them
