I think the OTT coverage of Neville's tweets just hides the real problems - of course using Neville's name brings headlines etc, but there are real equality / diversity etc issues which the authorities should be addressing rather than some stupid tweets Neville put out a few years ago.

I wish someone high up just had the balls to say 'this is a media storm in a teacup' - lets concentrate on teh real problems in hand.

I'm surprised by the obvious attempts to get Neville out of the job already. For those of us who have watched his punditry, special effort needs to be taken to get him employed for as long as possible.

too true!

I don't see this as OTT. In light of all the recent storms at the FA and the recent issues elsewhere to go through an interview process and not check if there was anything that might be an issue beforehand is again really poor management

Phil Neville has grown up in the media spotlight, he'll of had many media briefings over the years and be fully versed in dealing with media. He's worked in it as well

People say it was years ago but he did these tweets as a seasoned media warry mature male man. He would surely have understood the implications of this before he did it. If he didn't sorry he's frankly stupid

This has been described as banter with his sister / family / mates etc. so why on earth would he feel the need to share this stupidity with the world on twitter? By putting it out in the public domain like that he deserves every bit of criticism coming his way. It is bizarre how people feel the need to tweet such rubbish. He had no need to share this with the world in the first place

This and his actual lack of real background for this type of role makes it another complete shambles from the FA who continue to make basic mistake after mistake

His tweets where made in 2011 - 2012...

Talk about trying to dig for an agenda...

I'd be more worried about the stuff he says in 2018.

He's seemingly lack of football nous and charisma is the thing that worries me regarding how he got the job.

Not some harmless tweets.

Absolutley insane how many offended people there are in this world.

I agree some things had to change, but fck me.

Really. It's a long time ago. How old was he in 2011/12? How experienced was he in dealing with the media? What was his understanding of how things actually work?

You can try and condone it all you like but he should of known better and had no need at all the share the stupidity with the Twittersphere

Dress it up however you like, its another complete shambles

It really is not.

It is only a shambles if you are a weedy little ponce who gets offended by everything.

To a normal human being this is not news worthy.

Ummm....it seems to be newsworthy and been heavily reported

It's hard to believe how stupid this situation actually is

No point blindly defending the ridiculous. Neville was an idiot and the FA simply recruited a name rather than make sure they at least got the basics right

It will only be a shambles if the FA bow to media pressure and make it a shambles. These tweets have been out for so many years - someone must be really desperate to dig around and try to make something more of them that what they are. Common sense has left the building.

Let Neville get on with the job, let those involved in cleaning up the game get on with the job - there are far more serious issues that what Neville has tweeted, and efforts should be being made on concentrating on them rather than hounding Neville.

The FA have already told these women at Kick it Out that they are taking no further action.

What, someone who stays inline with a certain set of values?

It's a joke

The FA cannot take any action. They'd all have to resign. It's that stupid

And Phil Neville is clearly not the sharpest so it will be interesting to see how long this takes until he goes. The players won't take him seriously. Someone within that group will undermine him from day 1 and it will grow until the inevitable.

I just hope that they maintain this stance. I am sure the average person in the street doesn't give a damn about this story, but the media is just running with it as much as they can.

If only some real issues were given as much coverage as this non-story

I can remember the Leeds United players once feeling that way about a certain chap called Clough.

What happened next will always be funny to me.

The real issue is the stupidity of the FA and how they are such a consistent shambles

The Neville experiment worked really well with the mens team. What next, let's bring the other one in and give him a go! He has nowhere near enough coaching credibility to have that job

You could say the same about Giggs and the Wales job. For whatever reason, Neville has been chosen, let's at least wait to see how he does before criticising him.
