Death I meant sorry. He scored the best header I'd ever seen against Man Utd December 1970. Scotland has produced some great players over the years and Gille ranks at the very top.

He's not in the top ten Scots mate but a very good player that I remember well.

Played with a real elegance for a big guy (for that time)...probably made greaves and chivers what they were. A great header of the ball but a proper player too.

A classic Tottenham player in my opinion ( and I mean that in a positive way). Sheer class.

Top ten players for Spurs Magnum, EASILY. Greaves said he was his favourite striking partner. The ball would come from Jennings, Gillie would head it down to the feet of Jimmy and BANG.

Agreed. What would they be worth today?

Im not googling ath..but I think it was law, mccalliog and maybe Lennox up front...and the peerless baxter making the bullets. That team would skoosh this world cup.

Well...they were of the same generation....although gilzen probably slightly older..but probably in similar Scotland squads.

Knew you remembered Colin so surprised you don't remember gilzean

Or maybe it was just obsession or religious bigotry that made me do it

9 years between them
And Gilzean was down south from the year I was born
So I never saw him play

I remember that but was young and was unaware then of the Scottish attitude towards England.

Oak face mate

Actually thought he went south before that
I had him in the 62 team that cuffed us

Very sad news.

A local guy from up the road in Coupar Angus, obviously a massive player for the team across the road from us and a real footballing hero in this city.

More importantly, he was supposedly a lovely man.

RIP
