Fine if you don't want to discuss it but others might want to.

Articles are the lifeblood of this forum, it would die without people writing them. So please don't sh!t on my article before a debate has even begun.

Can't see this thread ending well.

I understand it why he's quit, from what I've read it sounds like this Grindel bloke isn't the nicest person in the world.

I don't know the full story, though there is a good article about it here with link to exactly what Ozil has posted

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jul/22/mesut-ozil-retires-german-national-team-discrimination

I suppose if he doesn't enjoy playing for his country then it's best he doesn't, and if there are racist elements then he's 100% right not to.

I would be interested to hear from Arsenal fans on perceived racism towards Ozil.

Reading the tweets he is spot on and very brave for going out against everybody responsible in the DFB etc.

A real shame to see the Bayern Munich president go out against him.

Actually quite proud that he's speaking up about it. It's similar to how some morons view our black players.

However, I would also note he seems to have retired when he probaly won't be starting for Germany again, not all those times he was voted (by fans themselves) German player of the year.

Read into that what you will.

his tweets are ridiculous.

he still does not get it. football has nothing to do with it, you don't take pictures with dictators and frankly enemies of germany as a german national team player.

Thoughts on Matthaus taking photos with Putin, enlightened hippocrite?

Well I think the reason being, when he was German player of the year they weren't slandering him in the press. Yet now they are.

bet he didnt get it worse than Beckham got it after France 98.

What about the other issues he has alluded to?

What about this pack mentality in which he is trying to highlight that a country who pretend to be so diverse have loved referring to him as a Turk/immigrant with worrying frequency?

He got abused for getting sent off. I don't think he should have been sent off and he certainly didn't deserve any of it, but it was because of something that he did which was viewed as breaking the laws of the game and subsequently harmed England's chance of progressing. That's why people were mad. Again, I do not for one second think he deserved all the massively over the top abuse.

Ozil is saying he is getting abused because he was born in Turkey.

I'm not having a pointless debate with someone over the internet who is either a troll on the wind up (in which case grow up) or incredibly naive (in which case educate yourself on racism), so enjoy your day.

him and gündogan took a picture of themselves with a man who has called for turks in germany to have at least five children so that they can take over germany at some point. a man who has jailed german journalists.
they then posted it to social media, one of them used the caption "my president". özil then goes on and on about how this is his heritage and why that somehow makes it ok.

how can they then be surprised, that people have doubts about how german they are after all of this? when they support everything germany stands against?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
He said it wasnt a political statement. That is what Gündogan said to the media. Obviously the media felt more behind it and gave it large to Özil when Germany failed. Coincidence?

And what do you assume when he took the picture with Erdogan?
