And I'm sure they can afford help

My point wasn't wrong Stretty. You just don't understand life. If the mum is unwell or needs some time to recover after giving birth then it stands to reason that the father should be/would want to be around to help out whilst she gets better.

You splitting hairs over whether she is unwell, exhausted, injured or whatever, is irrelevant and typical of the level of intelligence that you possess.

One more, demonstrating that you understand nothing of relationships or being a father.

If the mother can't be the primary carer for the child in the first days then most normal couples would want the father to take that role. You think that Martial would be happy abandoning her whilst she is laid up? You really do live on a different planet.

Who cares. He gets paid a fortune to play football and should of been back on that tour short of one of them being in critical condition which was not the case.

Also dont think he was uderstanding what being a father was when he was inoring his kid and shafting the new mother behind the other baby mums back

What we know

Martial has said he wants out
Jose couldn't stop him going for the birth
Baby is well and mother receiving best care money can buy
Jose expected Martial back before today
Player went back today

How much he gets paid is irrelevant. He is still a person. I am pretty sure that he is also legally allowed to take up to 2 weeks paternity leave if he wanted. Unless his contract specifically says otherwise. Obviously most footballers don't do this, but if he feel she needs to take some time to support his partner and new child then his job shouldn't impact on whether or not he is able to do that.

I would agree that it doesn't appear that he was the best father the first time around. We are of course basing this assumption after only hearing one side of the story - a story that was sold to and no doubt sensationalised by the tabloid in question. But assuming it was reasonably accurate, isn't it good to see that Martial has learned from his past mistakes and is trying to be better man/father?

We also know that it appears mother needed a few days to recover and Martial is returning now that she has.

I would say at worst it is poor communication from Martial not keeping Jose/the club informed of the situation after the birth.

At best it's bad communication.

At worse it's a ploy to instigate an attack by the manager

We will go with the 'at best' option then RDD.

Sorry if I’ve missed this somewhere but it’s a topic that I’m interested in as my girlfriend is pregnant at the moment. Isn’t Martial legally entitled to take 2 weeks paternity leave anyway? Is there something different for footballers?

At the end of the day, footballers are human beings and if he wants to spend that time with new baby/mum surely he’s perfectly entitled to and more than that, it’s perfectly understandable. If you could afford to (with the ridiculously low statutory paternity pay) most dads would surely?

Fack that. You’ve never had a baby have you? Annoying loud non stop pita crying machines. I’d rather be on tour

I don’t think the issue is whether Martial is allowed the time or not.

His time at United is precarious and could have decided on his own volition to come back earlier and made Jose pick him. But he chose the baby - which I really have no issue with at all. But maybe that decision finally put a nail in his United career.

If the mother was recovering then I do hope Jose doesn't hold that against Martial. It shouldn't be the final nail in his United career.
