If you look at the average position of the 3 CM Dier & Dembele are pretty much in line with each other.

I think Dier was slightly right to cover behind Trippier although he didn’t do a great job.

He has developed his tactical plans since the 15/16 season - yet he still makes as many tactical errors as he did back then.

Difference being back then the errors he made was playing the same team every game. Whereas now his errors are playing the wrong line-ups at the start and not adjusting during the game.

Could you argue he tries to rotate so that when a player comes in he's got match fitness and can slot straight in?

My only moan about the defeat was that Rose and Trips were out of position so much, why didn’t Poch just tell them to stay as a back 4?

They were very high at times and left you 2 v 3 when we managed to win the ball back high, was very risky and we could have scored more goals cause of it.

Because they have to give us width and it’s the way we’ve played ever since poch joined

Yeah the fullbacks playing high is a tactical choice that we have always done. In years gone past we had the fullbacks who had the athleticism to compensate for this aggressive starting position.

If the full backs are to play high you need your midfield to cover across and don't think Deir did that at all yesterday,

Even so we could all see it want working so needed to be changed.

15/16-16/17 we asked the fullbacks to cover the spaces they left with the exterior CB's covering the exposed area.

the full back and DMs havent done their jobs properly and are not athletic enough. Davies, Trippier, Dier all very flatfooted players. Rose showed glimpses Saturday and needs to be no1 choice LB. Aurier needs a run of games and ideally Wanyama will come back to form (unfortunetly cant see this either). Dier to be used as a 3rd CB if we play a back 3, 4th choice for back 4.

like edin said its okay to change the side depending on the game but the right balance isnt being used by poch and he takes far to long to make his substitutions too. His defensive changes in games tend to work out more but not his offensive ones.

Amateurish from Poch thinking a shape that worked against Utd will work against us.

Saturday was an absolute mess tbh. both fullbacks flying forward time and time again leaving us 2v 2 or outnumbered at the back.

what on earth was going on.

firstly how can Poch not see and correct that, and secondly, when the manager doesn't correct it, why hasn't one of the fullbacks actually had the intelligence to see what was happening, and to just hold back if the other one goes... and thirdly, if both of those things happen then why the fack was verts, toby, vorm, or kane as skipper not knocking trippier and roses heads together and t old them to stop being so facking naïve.

they should have been pinned up in the changing room wall by their shirt and told in no uncertain terms that they both cant go forward at the same time against probably the best counter attacking team in the league.

we should have lost 5-0 / 5-1 / 6-0 / 6-1. 2-1 seems a good result as our goal difference didn't get smashed to pieces.

diabolical performance.

After that initial very good start by Liverpool we weathered the storm and were managing the game reasonably well. It was really only the individual errors that let us down. And then when they scored our discipline went out the window. Too many players not at their best right now, or declining as in Dembele's case.

I said our form needed to improve and we've all noticed Poh can be tactically unaware and his team selections questionable.

As poor as the players performed, Poch was the catalyst for the dreadful performance in the first place. I’ve got no idea as to what the midfield were trying to do. If the midfield was narrow in order to stifle their front 3 then it certainly didn’t work, and having 2 upfront just gave Robertson in particular licence to raid down the flank as and when he wanted. I thought it looked odd at the start and after about 20-25 mins it was clear whatever plan he had wasn’t working and I was hoping and expecting he’d recognise that too and change it.

Did Dier ever venture out to the right hand side to cover? If he did then I must have blinked and missed it. As much stick as he gets, that would have actually been a job Sissoko could have done, shuffle inside and out as and when it was needed. Dier just looked like a lost puppy while Dembele looked like he should be put down at times ffs.

Watching that trash the other day was reminiscent of the days under Hoddle and Pleat when the big 4 used to toy with us and we knew full well we couldn’t do anything about it because we had the likes of Brown, Gardner and Doherty in the team. Embarrassing.

yes i believe we peaked a season ago, and are in decline, need major changes at end of season, if not before.

Aurier seems to be a player that most on JA606 want in the line up until he actually plays and then he gets completely slagged off.

its obvious what Poch thinks of him

Toby and Trips not traveled to Italy so Aurier will almost definitely be starting.
