You can’t win anything with a poor defence. Having said that Klopp hasn’t been able to balance defence and attack just yet. That’s where City have the edge at this stage of the season.

City have the edge in a lot of places.

Think I’d be happy with a balance between last years attack and this years defence. It’s not clicking for us at the moment up top. Luckily we’re still getting results. We need to improve though before our luck runs out.

City really look the ones to beat. We aren’t playing well enough to challenge them right now but at least we are clinging on to them with wins.

If our front three can get back to last seasons form perhaps we can but there’s no sign of that happening at the moment.

We are well placed to give Man City a proper challenge this season in my opinion.
Without really performing to our usual level, in terms of fluidity and attacking play, we have continued to win games, and our defence, is for me, the best in the league, and has been for some time.
Think we have only lost twice in our last 38 premier league games, and once we find our feet going forward, we, like City, who lets be honest, couldn't have had a much easier start to the season, arent going to be losing many games.
Of course its going to be tough, but we are a match for any team in this league, including Man City.

City have had the easiest start to a season, that I can remember any top team having in the premier league.
They play Spurs next week, and I can see them dropping points at Wembley, so we need to stay focused, dispatch Cardiff, and regain top spot.
Psychologically, its massively important, then when the opportunity arises, we take advantage, and although still early in the season, to go above City again next week, would just keep reminding them, that they aint having it their own way this season.

I agree we need to improve, but people keep comparing us to the second half of last seasons side, as opposed to the same time period.

The first 9 games of last season we were not very good.

We drew 3-3 with Watford first up and weren’t great
1-0 over a shocking palace at home, not great
Thrashed arsenal 4-0, we were brilliant
Thrashed 5-0 off city, poor
Drew 1-1 with burnley, poor
Beat Leicester 3-2 away but got lucky
Drew 1-1 with Newcastle, poor
Drew 0-0 with united
Lost 4-1 to spurs, shocking

This same time last season we had scored 14 goals. This season, with us not being very cohesive going forward we have scored 16 goals

We’re actually doing better going forward as well as defensively

I thought Huddersfield were very unlucky against Liverpool yesterday.

They had a clear penalty not given and a goal that was chalked off due to offside, when actually the ball hit Lallana

Fine margins but I am sure you won't see them as fortunate

Against City, Mahrez should've won the game against Liverpool and against Chelsea, it was a sublime finish that got Liverpool the point.

That's at least 2 points from very fortunate positions.

We were lucky against Huddersfield Morespurs. Klopp even said so in the post match conference, said Huddersfield probably deserved a draw.

But winning when you probably shouldn’t have is what wins you trophies in the end. And you absolutely need a bit of luck to win something, so here’s hoping it’s a sign of things to come for us.

Morespunk with another futile argument.

You could argue the same for just about any other team.

Its funny calling us lucky this season. Last season we were incredibly unlucky with ref and linesman's decisions going against us, I think we would have benefitted the most from incorrect decisions in the whole league.

Funny...last season not one person said, ah but Liverpool are unlucky they should be higher in the league...funny that eh!

To be fair to Klopp, he did a pretty good job of balancing defence and attack last season.
We conceded less goals than anyone else over the last 30 premier league games of last season, and scored a hell of a lot of goals in the process.
All this was achieved whilst still managing to reach a Champions League final.

We did seem to finish on the wrong end of more decisions than pretty much any team in the league.

Last year our first 9 games meant the best we could do was top 4.

You can't win anything now. You only keep yourself in the race.

Very true.

Considering we have played spurs and cfc away as well as Leicester and we are level on points with city, well loking at fixtures played we are probably doing the best in the league.

City really only played us as a tough game, thats it!!

City are just ahead of Liverpool in terms of their development as a team.Klopp is trying to reconstruct you midfied after the depature of Coutinho & Can.

Its theirs to lose in my opinion. In a once off game you can match city but over 38 games they are better in my opinion. Their style of play is defined and their players seem to slot in seamlessly. They are better suited to cope with injuries than your lot. Debruyn is twice the player that Bernado Silva is in Peps system. watch them go on a run now.

You may have bought good players but you still need another season or 2 to match City in my opinion. Only van Dijk, Wij, Milner and Robertson have started the season well.

But you have a very good squad and a world class 3, it will tick once Klopp sorts out the midfield.

GB, who city have played is irrelevant to the fact that they are still a strong outfit as they were last season. Its not like you can accurately pick the games they will drop points at.

All we know is Liverpool have improved their record against the top 4 teams (Chelsea & Spurs away) and against bottom 3 teams with their first win in 2 years yesterday.

Other than that there is absolutely nothing to suggest City will struggle away at Leicester or Spurs or Chelsea where they won comfortably last season.

You keep mentioning Leicester as if City will go there and struggle

Stupid to suggest that its irrelevant in regard to the quality of team, or teams you have faced.
Spurs are more than capable of beating City at Wembley next week, which, all things being equal, would see Liverpool go 3 points clear at the top of the league.
It may not happen, but it wouldnt be the biggest shock in the world if Spurs took points off City next week.

It is actually irrelevant because you all face the same teams regardless. Only way Liverpool wins the PL is to do the business themselves (take each game as it comes) & not look at what City has done and who they have faced.

I think thats a pointless exercise

Yes we all play the same teams...EVENTUALLY, thats the key word!

Right now to suggest playing the likes of cfc, spurs and Leicester away is irrelevant is nonsense, its perfectly relevant until the seasons end.

GB, Why do you keep mentioning Leicester ??? you have beat them them convincingly 4 times in your last 5 PL games ??????

So is Arsenal away and Wolves away. I think you are making a big deal of Citys fixtures. They have made them look easier because thats how strong they are.

Anyway all this will be clearer on monday night. With Spurs missing Delle Alli & Jan Vertonghen & Erikssen only back to fitness I dont think it will be a shock if City leave with the 3 points.

If anything the only advantage City have had is to play the top 6 teams at the most opptune time

Arsenal away (New manager) , liverpool away (poor form) & possibly an injury affected Spurs.

Once they have played united in 2-3 weeks time their fixures would be harder than Liverpool even though that doesnt really mean much with only a 3rd of the season done.

You cant predict where the twist & turns will be. All we know is they are a top team thats it.

One thing for sure maybe Klopp was right he can right a book about defending well!

3 goals in 9 games and one a complete howler!

We don't need to score 2 or 3 now to win a game.
