We could move on, but forgetting the past is a surefire way to make it more likely to repeat its horrors IMO.

"next year id like to be the start of the wind-down"

Sounds like a cliche, but if we don't remember the loss of life we'll be more likely to find ourselves collectively willing to repeat it.

We need to stop war, and I don't mean by just not fighting. We need to prevent it getting to that stage in the first place.

When tensions arise between nations, we need to defuse them rather than inflame them.

When people groups start hating each other, we need to teach them that love is better than hate.

So I'm in favour of remembering the huge sacrifice that was made both in the World Wars and in others, so we don't find ourselves sleepwalking into another similar situation.

Not going for controversy or anything but when do we put it behind us and move on? All for having rememberance parades and ceremony at the Cenotaph but its one day, one event.
Remembering didn't stop us having another WW and multiple smaller ones. We're a militaristic country that's currently having to recruit non-nationals to serve in our forces.

I absolutely wear one with pride but have no issue with those who do not.

My paternal grandfather fought in the First World War and was at the Somme and Passchendaele, so its a source of pride for me. My grandmother lost two brothers in the trenches as well.

I'm Irish, understand what it stands for and also know that both Irish men and women fought in both wars for all our freedom.

The McClean saga has been easy hit for many for many a season but walk a mile in his shoes if you might, he comes from the creggan which is republican were the majority of his family stil lives, affected by the troubles so for him to bow down and wear the poppy would be nothing short of suicide.

I wouldn't mind if most didn't get it but the ones dishing it out wouldn't even have a clue what year a war started never mind ended yet are content in the knowledge that saying they would tattoo a poppy on his wife's head is some sort heroism.

Unfortunately it's the world we live in.

Yes poppy fascism is getting worse, but we are free to wear what we want, the red one, the white one or none at all.

I got one of the little metal red ones this year and it’s actually stayed on my jacket for more than thirty seconds!

Lest we forget.

Which is exactly what we are doing it seems. The Far Right are on the rise here, America, Europe and now South America (with that pig they have elected in Brazil)

Anti War, Pacifism and Peace.

Fair enough. However I’m not sure that’s necessary as there’s an implication there that the red poppy is pro-War or at least not anti war. And of course the red poppy is also anti war.

"There are three elements to the meaning of white poppies: they represent remembrance for all victims of war, a commitment to peace and a challenge to attempts to glamorise or celebrate war."
