Giving more prize money for failure and less for success is about the worst idea I've heard. So bad in fact that I had to check the article wasn't written by Barry

It already happens:

Teams that are relegated will receive more money than teams that stay up.

To be honest, I'd prefer the Super League to the Champions League.

Too many nothing games in the current format and there's no chance of drastic remodelling.

Yet the post you link clearly highlights the 3 relegated teams got less money than any other club?

I wonder if the Nations League format could be pushed into club football at this level?

Doesn't include parachute payments

European football is never going back to its pre-Champions League era structure. Even if it could, that would not "save" the sport in any way.

What makes it a bad idea is not even the morality of it, but it would only worsen the inequality in European football seeing as many CL teams from smaller countries dominate their leagues. Giving them more money would only be consolidating on a one-team league status in their domestic divisions.

Truth is the biggest teams in the globe only keep expanding their income streams and creating a wider gap between them and the others. This whole Super League thing seems an inevitability, and might be more imminent than many think.

Do the relegated teams get more than the champions then?

You get more money the earlier you go out? Great incentive to do your best

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep. Imagine how competitive the Scottish league would be if Celtic get an extra 80M a year and the rest get nothing.......
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We could all chip together, buy the Gibraltar champions, crash out of the CL and walk away with 80m to split
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I like this plan

I'm in.

I've a quid on me. Count me in.

Like others have said.....the Super League is far more likely to replace the CL than domestic leagues. Whether you agree with it or not.....it's probably going to happen too.

I don't know why the CL group tables take into account the scores and results of matches, it's the clubs wealth that matters. Just let the groups be won on wealth alone.
Lets scrap CL games altogether and televise the clubs counting out their millions in bank vaults instead.
