Put Sarriball on hold?

It's not just Man City with Guardiola, Liverpool gave Klopp time to get it right after a poor first couple of seasons.

I think persisting with Sarri's style of play is the right thing in the long term.

How the hell is Erik still allowed on this board ?

But to answer the question no we shouldn't put it on hold ,in practice it doesn't work when you bring in a manager for a specific style, AVB and Neville at Chelsea and Valencia abandoned their projects with the intention of doing it temporarily and players go back into the comfort zone .

There's no middle ground with the Safari situation ,we either back his football and accept the growing pains that come with it or we sack him, going pragmatic and rebooting after a few signings isn't an option, it won't work.

Why would you persist with him? He's won nothing ever, Pep could be trusted because we knew he could deliver.

Neville's gig at Valencia was one massive p*sstake

True, It's more of a leap of faith with Sarri. Still a risk worth taking though.

Why should he be allowed to freely roam around our board pretending to be one of us after the repeated thrash he spoke about our club ? Would you welcome me on the Real Madrid board/forum if I spent over a year smack talking your club in every way possible?

If he admits his true colours then fine, but if he's big enough to thrash talk us then pretend to be a Chelsea fan, he's big enough to deal with the backlash.

There's no point in putting the whole style on hold.. IMO it should be persisted with and with another transfer window and proper pre season with the players in confident the players will execute this style to a good level.

Cba going back to counter attacking football again.. this was never gonna be an easy transition after Mourinho/Conte style football.

It will come if given proper time.

DDLL & Eden

There's a difference between abandoning a style of play and changing it. That 4-0 defeat was a crossroads moment, it showed if Sarri keeps doing exactly what he's doing, i.e. 433 using Jorginho as the linchpin expecting the movement to come from the CM's/WG's, we're not gunna finish top 4. Sarri's expected a lot of change out of the players this season, there's a case to be made they're entitled to see a bit of change back from him.

The reason I fear for Sarri atm wouldn't necessarily be if we finished outside of top 4 cos I do believe we're trying to break bad habits, I still think if Conte hadn't of made his position untenable he'd still be our manager today, I'm worried because that defeat wasn't a freak result. Teams have figured us out for months identifying various weaknesses - Luiz's indiscipline, mark out Jorginho, little threat from the right, don't fall for the pressing trap, we get weaker when we're behind, etc... Bournemouth capitalized on all of them in one match. It's the never ending decline in our performance which could get Sarri fired (which I don't want) if we finish outside the top 4.

The thing is it's not a question of abandoning SarriBall because that's not what we're playing atm. SarriBall's all about vertical passing, you go back to go forwards/not side to side looking for an opening, the players limitations have killed his style already - so as of now he's failing. It would say more about Sarri as a tactician if he embraced that and tried to make something out of a set of players who've gravitated to playing a horizontal passing game. He did against Spurs in the LC, he quickened the tempo why'll utilizing Luiz as the linchpin to be the source of virtual direct passing and it worked.

If Sarri's not one of those managers who utilizes substitutions as game changers, which is fine - plenty other top level managers like that, then his core style of play has too change. We can't be left stuck in this cycle of useless possession football, it's the most easily counteracted way of playing to PL opposition. The LVG trap.
