He said a close female friend was raped when he was younger, by a black man.
In an interview he told a story and admitted to being messed up and angry and basically wandering around predominantly black areas in the hope that someone would confront him so he could kill a black guy.
Can see how people might get offended by that.

He's admitted it and admitted he feels guilt and shame for feeling the way that he did at the time. What Barnes then said is true for everyone.. at one time or another every human will have racist thoughts at one point in their lives. Every person of every ethnicity has bound to have felt that way at some point in their lives.
It's a storm in a teacup at the end of the day. Famous actor has admitted he's held racist thoughts at some point in his life and got close to acting upon it but didn't and therefor feels bad about it

Obviously there was a lot of outcry. Unsurprisingly Piers Morgan 'slammed' Neeson on the topic today apparently. Funnily enough a Green MSP from my constituency said similar things about Churchill last week and Morgan had a right go at him for that too.
I think what Barnes had to say about Neeson was a refreshing take on the matter.

He was hoping to get into an altercation with the rapist.

If if had been a white man raping the woman and Leeson had come out saying 30 years ago this happened and I roamed the streets to kill a white man no one would have bat an eyelid.
