Why couldn't it be some crappy new building
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The sprinklers would put it out?

I used to quite like the London skyline. But some of the buildings that have gone up are daft.

Been there a few times - including to attend mass.

What a bloody shame.

Pity it wasn't the Houses of Parliament as it would cost about 10% of the refurb costs (~£7 billion) to put a purpose built new place up instead.

Proposed to my wife in Notre Dame and she's visiting relatives in France at the moment.

Understandably in bits, such a beautiful iconic building, pardon the pun but gutted.

Early reports suggest it had something to do with the renovations happening currently.

I hope it doesn’t turn out to be something as little as a discarded cigarette

The building itself should survive but everything inside will be destroyed. Such a huge loss of artwork, history and religious articles

Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it
-----------------------------------------
Tons of water are going to destroy the building even further, will probably knock it down completely

There Notre Dame thing to do now but wait and pray.
Looks like they’ve managed to save the main building and rescued some of the relics

It's next to the Seine, can't believe there are no fire fighters there.

It's like the time it took to get the paramedics to Diana. What's with that city?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They got to Diana late on purpose so she would die.

The pope is praying for the Parisian population and those struggling to cope with what has happened

Some French woman on the news this morning compared it with 911

Ffs, an old building has been damaged by fire, as far as I'm aware, thousands of innocent people haven't yet lost their lives
