Most United fans will know that City and Liverpool are much better teams at the moment so no one can seriously come on here and moan that United lose a derby to City.

I'm disappointed we lost (like I always am when we lose) but amazingly there's still a slight chance for 4th place. I'm sure Chelsea and Arsenal fans are equally amazed their teams are in with a good chance as well.

Only three years ago Liverpool finished 8th whilst United got the same amount of points as City in the league. How times have changed but, the good thing is, it can change the other way too.

That's right. City have more quality. We may have had a better chance back in January/February against them but that's football.

I'm not giving up on my team though but improvements have to be made. It'd be nice to qualify for CL but, long term, not qualifying may make it easier to get rid of players and get in players who actually want to play for the club and not just join a 'Champions League Club'. That should be the case in any situation though.

It galls me to say it but we should look at your recruitment the last few years. Most of the players you've signed have come from middling clubs but they've all been signed with a plan in place on how they are required to play. For example I don't think you're midfield (on paper) is anything special but they perfectly compliment the excellent defence and attack.

Yeah exactly we've done well recruiting players in the main since Klopp came in. Like Robertson for 8 million I think has been a top buy, Keita starting to look like he may be decent although has loads still to prove.

The set up we have in place seems to work well for player recruting, also getting a ton of money through sales has helped us pay big money for players too.

United are one of the few clubs whereby missing out on CL won't have a major financial impact, and also fully agree to get the squad sorted maybe a year in europa will help, you can blood some youth, get rid of a few non performing players on high wages and then as you say you can get players who actually want to go to united not just for the payday.

Will be a slow process but if you have a good summer window then that's a good start.

I think it'll be a sow process to unless we luck out in buying 4/5 starters and they hit the ground running. Take out City, Liverpool and Spurs (as to be fair they have been consistent these last few years) and there's still 96 points to play for against teams that you should well be beating. Simplistic way of looking at it but it's a way of managing the season.

no mark

Commonly used in Merseyside to describe an underacheiver, with no friends, no ambition, no job, but who often has illusions that he is someone or thinks he's important.

So Liverpool has 491,500 no marks then?

A good pre-season too with Ole really getting to stamp his ideas on the squad and improving the overall fitness of the squad will make a big difference.

Once fans a re a bit patient, and I'm sure they will be with Ole, then he will have time to get things turned around.

People may laugh but I think, on the whole, United fans are quite patient as long as there's an indication that the players are playing for the shirt and there's an upward curve in performance.

I know it's easy to say now but perhaps this bad run of form was needed to show just the size of job it is. Had we kept on anything near our early Ole form we'd have near enough secured top 4 now and perhaps the club would have thought that things aren't that bad and would have just left things be. A reality check can sometimes be a good thing.

30 years incoming. OP might just cry.

United's problem is a lack of quality and when the star players are underperforming, they are mediocre at best.

I look through their squad and yes quality footballers who have proven themselves either elsewhere/at the club like Pogba, DDG, Sanchez, Lukaku, Mata, Matic etc have been poor for most of the season.

But I look again and see some painfully average players. Young, Smalling, Jones, Lindelöf, Bailly, Darmian, Fred etc and worryingly, most of them are the defenders.

Don't get me wrong I don't watch United much these days, but when I do, they seem so dull. They've just not got the same quality as what the other sides around them do unfortunately.

posted on 25/4/19

I sat down last night hoping to be entertained by top class football, and I was. After the first thirty minutes, when United threw everything at City and got nowhere, City took control of the game in its entirety.

They made themselves look better because they played as a team. United didn't, because they don't have one. That's not the player's fault any more than it's the fault of OGS. For the prices paid to recruit Fred (just who is he??) Pogba and Sanchez, United have been truly rinsed, big time.

I'm not wishing it, I want to see United put out a top class team, and then get spanked, I'm a Red, but I suspect they will get worse before there is any hope of recovery.

On their current form, they're headed into the wilderness, a place we've been in for far too long.
