Training ground a priority?

Sounds like spin has started already. Radz won't buy, he will use youth...well the ones he hasn't sold.

I think we might have to sell to buy but I also think any sales will be Bielsa’s call. Bournemouth looking at £40m for Phillips and Clarke? Paper talk but that’s serious money.

Would you sell at that price?

The loan players have been the thing to let us down.

Who said it was a priority? Maybe it’s just something Bielsa has asked for if he stays next season and the club have agreed to it..

Mike, spot on.

I have no problem if we have to sell to buy and then we buy what Bielsa wants.

The problem we had with Vieira sale is that Bielsa was not made aware that this was needed.

However, having said all this, our admin costs are stupidly high, especially our scouting costs, and so maybe we wouldn't actually need to sell to but if AR had better control of out of control spending.

Remember, we're going to start paying rent on Elland Road to AR soon as well.

Im just happy if bielsa stays. If he leaves the squad is imo is 20% worse than it is with him. I truly believe the team would be mid table without him.

He has eeked out what there is. I don't think too much will be spent on training. Minimal against a good quality player in this league

My worry for bielsa is that he is too humble and will happily shine as many average players as you give him.

Imagine bielsa with 11 great players at club level

No doubt we need some quality

Imagine this team with

1 competent crossers,
2 people who could strike a shot on goal with power and aim,
genuine pace,

we have the rest just lacking these things.

Give him the training bits but give him some quality as well

If we are to move forward it is absolutely essential that the recruitment process is correct this time around.

I for one would trust Bielsa to find the players required and the youth to flourish, if his judgment on Daniel James is anything to by.

Pressure will be on our Owner to properly back him.

I think we have some great prospects coming through the under 23’s. Add a couple of decent signings and keep the ones he wants to keep and we should be ok.

If we go up then I expect the purse strings to be slackened quite a bit.

We are all talking like we will lose the playoffs but we are quite capable of winning our next four games.

So what do we need...

IMO

1 x CB
2 x Wingers
1 x Striker

However, other than the ones out on loan I don't see who we can shift out, which makes sense because he wanted a smaller squad.

Which means it needs to be funded by AR, we simply CANNOT be selling players as the desirable ones to get a few quid will be the ones we need to help us get up (if we somehow miss the boat)

What about a LB, or are you happy with DeBock/Douglas/Pearce?

I'm happy with Alioski / Douglas at Championship level

I posted the full article before on another of your articles.

I get the impression the changes to Thorp Arch are being pursued by Bielsa, not AR.
They are right to make sure he has the tools he needs, don't you think?

I'm pleased they are intent on keeping him next season whatever happens over the next 3 or 4 games.

No one says the training ground is a priority, just that further improvements will be made. That's Bielsa - he's not a cheque book manager and will always look to improve what he has on the training pitch before buying.

I'm sure we'll spend money. Also I'm sure we'll sell someone. That's the nature of the Championship and our club. I'm not going to criticise Radrizanni for not plowing money into the club to bankroll us, this club has been losing money before player sales for nearly 2 decades.

After last summer when most thought Roofe, Klich, Phillips, Alioski weren't of the standard needed, would we really be surprised to see someone like Halme or Pearce come through and take on a bigger role in the squad?

Re priority.

We're hearing training ground improvements together Bielsa to stay.

We're not hearing budget secured or transfer support agreed to get Bielsa to stay.

The priority is to mention training ground, its suggests that's all they have to offer at present.

AZA, I would say Douglas has been a disappointment and Alisoki is a liability there and has been shown this season, they're not enough. Look at the impact the Sheff Utd LB has had by comparison.

Douglas and Alioski have been good enough this season.

Our profligate finishing and lack of pacy wingers is the only reason we aren’t up.

Chris Wood, I am in absolute no doubt with just him we’d have p1ssed the league.

If they'd have been good enough we'd have been promoted already.

At this point, we don’t know which league we will be in next season so how can the club be talking about players for next season?

Either way, he knows what he needs/wants at the training ground and has provided it to the club.

Still think we need a CM midfield general - PH is more creative and attacking and Phillip's is best at DM.

Forshaw has been so-so to date when playing and I don't mean the odd good game like yesterday.

The club have said they aim to retain Bielsa whichever division they are in, they therefore will already have an idea of what they'll need next season if in this division and next season if in Prem.

Its really not difficult therefore to commit to supporting manager in this areas, but they have chosen to highlight upgrading the training ground.

Very underwhelming.

Jonty this just looks like you're trying to find a problem that isn't there right now.

If Leeds go up, our budget for players increases massively. If we stay down, it's less. Not sure what you want them to say " we are keeping Bielsa and going to give him x amount of money". Clubs don't generally do that, you don't tell people you are going to spend.

It was reported by Phil Hay that the club were offering CBs to Bielsa last summer and he said he didn't need another one. Not sure there is much to suggest they wouldn't support Bielsa with what he wants.

Best, we have no money, we need better quality players, yet our big carrot for biers is upgrading a training ground we don't own that our owner says he wants to exit from.

I have no problem with us having great facilities as long as we are investing in the team first.

posted on 29/4/19

I suspect Bielsa is focusing on playing Ipswich right now, not even thinking about the playoffs yet, as most other managers would be (other than Garry Monk, perhaps).

I recommend we all do lkewise for the next few weeks.

posted on 29/4/19

Jonty what clubs in this league do have money aside from clubs being bankrolled by owners?
It's the nature of this league.

Who says that's the big carrot? You're assuming an awful lot.

For some of the just criticism of Radrizanni as an owner, we can't say he hasn't shown a desire to invest in the playing squad. Yes we have to sell to buy but it's reinvested. I wouldnt worry about Leeds making signings.
