It's difficult when you see there are 5 out of contract players. Cech, Lichtsteiner, Jenkinson, Ramsey and Welbeck.

Cech doesn't really need replaced but you need a right back, a replacement for Ramsey and a winger.

Even buying potential you are going to be paying 30m a pop. You could quite easily blow your budget and not have even replaced the out of contract players.

The increase in fees over the last couple of years makes closing the gap quickly increasingly difficult.

You would also bank on City, United and Liverpool having more to spend.

I think this is where Emery has to
1. be savvy in the market (can we, for example, get Rabiot who is on a free and worked well with Emery previously)
2. commit to using the players coming through the ranks (is AMN a CM who could deputise for the incoming CM? Will we use Nelson as the winger we're missing? Can Eddie step up? And so on)
3. roll off the players we don't need strategically while making the most for the club. We've all seen him speak complimentary about players we know are crap and we believe it's for that reason... it's just apparent that we don't see the mass exodus / cull we know we need so some players who should leave need to be kept motivated so that when the DO leave (next Jan or summer), it's not at a bargain basement price.

It's such a difficult job he has.

Frees would be good to exploit but so many teams will be after Rabiot that wages will need to be top notch. United for example are in a similar position of needing an overhaul albeit on a bigger scale imo and they can gazump you when it comes to wages.

Brahimi at Porto is out of contract, he's probably the only other top class freebie out there and one i could see Arsenal getting if they wanted.

I'm as interested in the market this summer as i have ever been as this is when the full force of the inflated fees will bite.

It should be an interesting summer with so many rich teams needing to revamp their squads (Barca, Real, PSG, Man Utd for example). Could be some good players going for decent prices as a result.

I'd be excited if I had any faith in Arsenal's ability in the transfer market!

Some of our recent signings:
Lacazette
Aubameyang
Torreira
Leno
Guendouzi
Sokratis

Why do you have no faith?

You've compounded 3 transfer window. I speak in terms of the scale of the change required for this one. I don't think we'll bring in that many but I'm happy to be proven wrong. And then add to the fact that Laca and Aubameyang were Wenger (gone) and the rest were in part due to Mislintat (gone). Who is that person now? Raul? Meh...

3 transfer windows - oh no a whole YEAR!!! #DRAMA

Wenger did not have much to do with Laca and Auba at all. He had lost control by then.

And what is wrong with Raul? He is the one who actually did the signing.

You have no faith based on no knowledge.

You're quite melodramatic, aren't you? I merely pointed out that you're ccmparing 3 windows to 1. If you want to have a conversation about the signings in the next 3 windows compared to the last three from which you've listed those players, I'm happy to... but that's now what I was speaking about. You're always going at people for not being specific yet here you are with an exaggerated faux reaction when that same precision is asked of you.

Strange.

As for the rest, I said I have little faith. I didn't say I had evidence to back that we wouldn't be active or successful. The key word was "faith". I'd share the definition but I think you're big enough to figure that one out yourself.

I am not comparing three windows to one, I am highlighting players Arsenal have signed very recently and questioning why you have no faith despite the obvious evidence.

We have signed big name, expensive players (eg Auba), relatively unknown, cheaper players (eg Torreira) and youth players (eg Guendouzi) showing the ability to play the transfer window at all levels.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

So on average, based on the names you gave, we 2 players per window? We currently have 3 leaving with scope for at least a couple more. If you scroll up, you'll note I said "I speak in terms of the scale of the change required for this one". Forgive me for being uncertain we will bring in at least 5 players in one window when the average is 2 along with other factors like being outpriced by other clubs.

But again, as you'll note if you scroll up, "I'm happy to be proven wrong."

We got 5 last summer, so not sure why it would be beyond us in a non World Cup year when we are not changing manager.

I'm glad you take my faith (or lack) so seriously!

Has everyone forgotten Smith-Rowe? Hope he will feature more next season. He did well in Europa league and league cup.

Expect him to go on a full season loan to Leipzig or another Bundesliga club.

As DJ mentions many of our transfers of late have been excellent. Basically since the power was taken from Wenger as far as I understand.

Our main problems IMO are Ozil, Mikhi, Xhaka all midfielders, all on big money all should be nowhere near the first team but it's difficult to justify 500k worth of wages on "prime age", big money players not in the squad. These 3 need to be got rid of, that frees up massive funds but also takes away a conflict for the manager.

Obviously Mustafi is total dross to and needs to go.

Championship players like Chambers, Jenkinson, Elneny, Iwobi etc aren't such a major issue. Yes they're not good enough and ideally should go but they won't hold the club back from transfers as much as the major players above.
