I wouldn’t disagree with that. But I do agree with the point that if the players are correct the coaching position isn’t that important. Barca and Madrid have always been the perfect example of that.

Yeah, but again you're talking about groups of players that are absolutely light years beyond their immediate competition.

It's the equivalent of choosing a couple of drivers to pilot a Lambo and a Ferrari against a fleet of Renault 5s in a lap of the Nurburgring.

Pep also needed to spend a few bob to build the team he has now. When he leaves, what will city still challenge? Of course. Look at the managers that they've won the league with... has it been mostly the managers or the players?

Indeed, which stresses the point about the importance of players. An unbelievable coach and peds can bridge that gap, however. Look at Liverpool.

To the extent they win is down to Pep.

Bayern have still won the titles without Pep but look set to sack their second manager since despite that while the intensity that Pep demanded at Barca has eroded. Put it this way had Messi left Barca under Pep they would have still remained formidable but if he leaves now they're fecked.

Agree but for years they needed a top CB and Klopp couldn't coach himself out of it. If we have a club philosophy and buy in the right positions, we can build a solid foundation for which a top manager can come in and give us that bit of genius that we need to stay ahead of the other top teams.

Barca would still win La Liga if Messi left this summer I reckon.

City will still challenge but I agree they would not be as strong. The point I'm trying to make in the OP is that you don't need a top manager to build a solid foundation and get you challenging. City already had a solid foundation before pep came in and none of their managers needed to be world-beaters to get City challenging.

Can't see it, with Suarez's decline and Coutinho/Dembele flattering to decieve i think at best they would get a default like win.

I always thought Daz was on the wind up with the PEDs comment, but he’s not wrong is he? How are you getting the likes of Salah, Robertson running 120mph at this stage of the season with no signs of tiredness?

No but I'm hoping Ole will have enough influence to make the right calls on recruitment and the right influence on training etc.

Because Klopp cut down the intensity for a lot of the first six months which has probably helped them energy wise now.

I shouldnt be surprised by now that people talk nonsense without checking but Liverpool still cover loads of ground.

They are signing Greizmann, De Jong and De Ligt. Dembele’s had some injuries but is starting to settle at Barca now. If Messi left they’d sign Neymar. Madrid and Atleti have a hell of a lot of work to do to catch up to Barca even without Messi let alone with him.

Think Arthur will play a bigger role too. Get those signings over the line and they'll be a force for the foreseeable future.

I think they could do with replacing Valverde. Too functional and stifles their flair. I think it’s one of the reasons Coutinho has stuggled.

Absolutely. May go for Allegri but with Barca you never know tbh. Probably put Ronaldinho in.

posted on 15/5/19

Doubt Allegri would be considered if they won’t a less functional style of play. Barca don’t tend to go for high orofile coaches either.

Pfft. Who in their right mind would go down the ex-player, unproven manager, route?
