I’m not sure I agree. How many Armenian players were even in the Europa this season? It’s an unfortunate situation for him, but you can’t really be making decisions on where a final should be played because of it - especially when the governing bodies are trying to remain politically neutral.

I totally agree. I dont think there were enough reasons to blacklist Baku from hosting. Every UEFA member country is entitled to apply to host a UEFA event. It just so happened that an Armenian is in one of the finalist teams.

I don't blame Arsenal one bit for playing the game as they have to chase their slice of next seasons cl dosh.

The fault is entirely UEFA's, as the competition reached its later stages they would of known that this could happen and should of lined up an alternative venue. I'd like to think they will learn from this but I bet they don't.

Imo it sounds like an overreaction by the club. Baku hosts F1 and there has never been any security incidents. I doubt the threat is as serious as it's being made out to be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bit different, there are no Armenian drivers for a start.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So UEFA should have predicted that Arsenal would reach the final? It's just an unfortunate coincidence.

Why don’t Arsenal boycott it then? This wouldn’t be an issue had Arsenal not made the final, sticking with the original venue does make sense in this respect.

Absolute disaster the way they’re treating this final, apparently Chelsea have only sold like 600 tickets so far.

Should of had a plan B in case they did. It can't be right that any player can miss one of the biggest games of his life simply down to his country of birth.

It would. It is still a stupid and disgraceful situation regardless of whose team is involved.

As for boycotting, I think we probably should do on principle, but given what is on the line, it probably won’t happen.

This isn’t our fault though, this is the fault of UEFA for choosing a venue that isn’t inclusive and isn’t accessible.

They could've looked at alternatives when the semi final draw was made. How hard is it?

I don’t think it would, there wouldn’t be any Armenian players so that would be less of an issue. I get what you are saying, but I do agree with the decision to stick with the original venue.

It was a report from a few days ago, Arsenal have sold 3000. Don’t blame fans staying away at all

The host country and host FA and UEFA have given the strongest possible safety assurances to Arsenal, so I'm not sure what else they should do. I have no doubt security will be massively upgraded.

As I said in my initial comment on this thread, it isn’t just about the players. Fans can not attend if they have Armenian heritage because their lives would be put at risk.

It’s a stupid decision and it’s made UEFA look terrible. Their PR spin simply didn’t work and now they are going to be vilified even more.

It’s been a horrendous situation all round. Who has benefited from it?

It would serve UEFA right if the stadium is half full but as I posted earlier I still don't trust them to learn from it.

This is an utter disgrace. I understand CL is essential for our inmediate future but we need to take a stance here. UEFA firstly choosing such an inaccessible venue was bad enough, but them siding with Azerbaijan in this matter is the last straw. Arsenal should refuse to travel. End of.

Do the FBI need to do another raid (or was that just FIFA)?

Uefa certainly won’t come out of this looking good, I agree.

That's it.

Refuse to play, sacrifice any chance of a European trophy or CL football next season and the chance to add 60m to your meagre transfer budget and make it even more difficult to rebuild your squad and club.

That will really show then

What a load of nonsense. There's some things greater than money. We can always qualify next season but the treatment Mkhi has received is a disgrace.

How is it a load of nonsense?

If you take a moral stance and refuse your club will suffer, Arsenal more than most need money to spend if they want to be playing CL again anytime soon especially with the state of your squad.

I don’t think these finals should be hosted in third world countries anyway, these guys are still in the dark ages if they have issues with Armenian players coming over to play for a huge European final. Maybe Raqqa or Baghdad can be the next destination in a few years time.

posted on 21/5/19

If we'd already qualified for the CL a boycott would be an absolute no brainer.

Sadly CL qualification is so crucial to the rebuild we desperately need I'm not sure it's worth it. I'd have far more respect for the club than I currently do if they did though.

UEFA are facking mugs for this situation even existing anyway.

Part of the problem for travelling fans is the sudden skyrocketing air ticket and accommodation prices. For instance, tickets to Madrid, which normally cost around £100, have skyrocketed to around £1,500 around the CL final days. Tickets to Baku are normally less than £300 but now cost around £1,400 for the final. That's down to greed.
