Maybe we can't get a replacement in, maybe we aren't going to make the expected revenue on sales so don't have a big budget, maybe he is just a player we want to keep.

Do you expect anything else?
We are clueless, desperate and damn right embarrassing as a club atm

Can't afford to get rid of all the numpties in one window, at least Mata has vision and creativity.

He would do a job for another year better than Matic for instance.

posted on 21/5/19

If there's one thing mata is not, and that is a numpty

Should not be a starter as his legs have gone, but there's a list as long as your arm of "numpties" that should be discarded before Mata

A mistake. Love the guy but he’s past it. Would rather give the kids chance.

Could Mata be there as a mentor for Angel Gomes for example. He's an experienced player and won't be a starter, but there are many players ahead of him that need to go first

We need to be ruthless. A good guy but not the right player for us.

Lets see the order of all United players that need to go.

Can't get rid of everyone. Not overly bothered by him staying.

I think Ole will value his experience on and off the pitch. He’s not the player he was but for one more year still has something to contribute. Even if we are playing a lot of the youngsters in the cups they will need guiding through games so keeping Mata in that capacity has value.

Need to keep some players around that have work ethic, and can lead. He won't start much but can still have an impact for us.

There is no particular order, but there are players who contribute far less than Juan Mata would as a bit part player

I feel like this experience for the younger players is over played a bit. We’ve had plenty of hugely experiences players recently and what’s that done?

The club lacks leaders and winners (things I wouldn’t label Mata) more than anything. I like Mata but I don’t really feel he’s needed at the club any longer, especially considering he’ll probably demand high wages.

I think a lot of it are the intangibles that we don’t see. How these players conduct themselves on and off the pitch, the advice they can pass on and standards they set around the training ground aren’t quantifiable. Fergie, and he’s not the only manager, kept experienced players around for that reason.

We need to pad the squad out a bit out as well with the Europa, it helps having a bigger squad when you are in that competition.

Sanchez and Lukaku could be leaving in the summer as well Pogba. The club aren’t likely to let them go and Mata all at once.

posted on 21/5/19

Exactly. I'd label Mata as a useful squad player now, we have a lot that are squad players that are not very useful

At least we’ve renewed Young’s contract, his experience will be invaluable to the youngster.

posted on 21/5/19

It actually might, to be fair. I don’t think you can question him as a professional. And it shows that you can still extend your career into your 30’s by showing that conduct, even if you are facking shiiiiiiit at the game.

I have been preaching this to the unconverted since Vidic left.

This.

If we were to cull everyone on some people's lists, we'd lose Jones, Rojo, Young, Matic, Darmian and Mata. With Valencia already gone, that would leave us with next to no experience in the dressing room whatsoever.

Which would be disastrous unless we were to bring a few senior players in.

There’s gonna be a lot of fans crying next season because so many of those will still be at the club. It’s gonna be fun.

Smalling I hadn't forgotten. He'd be on his own.

Sanchez I wish I could forget but I think we'll see him leave, probably on loan, this summer anyway.

Lukaku and Fred I wouldn't suggest are incredibly experienced, influential or wise heads.

Obviously I don’t see what’s going on behind closed doors but the club have been gutless for so long it’s hard to see how these ‘experienced’ players are offering much? From what we heard under Moyes it was many of the experienced players who were letting down the manager, I understand it’s a very complex situation that isn’t so black and white, but still, I think experience can be overstated, especially when the players in question haven’t really done much at the club.

Look at Liverpool, I wouldn’t say they’re filled with much experience but what they do seem to have in abundance are players who care and give their all, something that seems to be lacking at this club for far too long. Ideally you want a balance but I’m not sure what experience players like Rojo, Jones, Young, Darmian and Valencia are offering that is so valuable.
