£70m

I'm not saying he's not a good player, because he is decent, but that's all, decent. Why would United want him? How much of an improvement actually is he on what is already there?

Significantly.

Not at £70m though

That’s the thing, it doesn’t appear we are in the market for a huge upgrade in the striker department as there’s a lot of belief in Rashford as the main cf. So a striker with potential to act as an alternative or to play alongside him seems to be the route we may go.

As I mentioned before, that’s a risky road to go down for next season given we’d not have any proven goal scorers in the squad. But if we are going to be patient and look beyond just next season I can see the logic.

Well I don't see how he would do a better job than what Rashford would up front. I reckon a good season for Rashford would be 15 goals, that would be very good. Ole clearly believes in him, look how good he was back when Ole first came in. Recapture that, why would you want anybody else? United have a chance to blood through a very talented youngster in Rashford, something that all the fans want. This is the best chance they've had in years where someone from the youth system can make a serious impact in the first team. United play him as a number 9 next season and believe in him and play to his strengths, he will do well.

I’m not saying he would. But with it looking like Lukaku is leaving we need a striker to replace him. Greenwood looks a more talented player than all of the forwards we have, but it’s probably a bit too soon to be throwing him into the spotlight. All of what you’ve mentioned can be achieved even if we were to sign the Frenchman. Rashford will still be the main striker I would think.

But why waste £70m to do that? Why sell Lukaku for X amount of millions and then replace him with a £70m striker who has proven nothing in a league of really good quality and would just play second fiddle to Rashford. United have guilty of spending too much money on players recently and that would be another example of it. If you're going to spend £70m on a striker, he has to be a proven goalscorer in a good league and would have to be playing games for me personally.

I know we say "money means little" in modern day football, but you still judge players on their price tags regardless of how astronomical you think it is. £70m so sit on the bench?

I think the mistake you’ve made here is thinking we’ll be spending £70m on Dembele.

posted on 25/5/19

Whoa! Gonna need a bigger keep net 🎣

posted on 25/5/19

Well even the £40m or whatever you've bid is still poor to have someone sat on the bench anyway. Lyon are hard negotiators, just because you've bid £40m doesn't mean you'll get him at that price.

That may be, but Manchester United clearly don’t care too much having valuable assets playing in rotation.

There's a real lack of quality strikers in the market. Icardi is probably the best striker who is said to be available but the baggage he comes with is simply not worth it.

Jovic would have been great but looks like Madrid got there first.

If we don't sign Moussa Dembele I haven't got a clue who we'll go for. We might just end up keeping Lukaku at this rate.

If you're looking for someone to replace Lukaku but play 2nd choice to Rashford or rotate, there will be some good strikers who are better than Dembele at probably half of the price if you look correctly.

Think we have seen him enough to be fair. More than likes of Bruno Fernandes etc.

He's not a world beater who is going to take us to the PL title. He would be a decent to good forward to replace Lukaku though.

I don't think we will be trying to sign a instant first 11 number 9 this summer. I think there's faith in Rashford n Martial at the club. We need to improve the supply lines to them really.

To be honest, if Lukaku does go, we could do with a striker who offers something a bit different to what we have. Wouldn’t have to be a starter, but someone with a skill set Rashford & Martial don’t have. Wouldn’t be against Mitrovic for example.

Mitrovic would love it at United with the players we have crossing it.
