This was his own words according to Der Spiegel:

"I f@cked her from the side. She made herself available. She was lying on her side, in bed, and I entered her from behind. It was rough. We didn't change position. 5/7 minutes. She said that she didn't want to, but she made herself available. The whole time it was rough, I turned her onto her side, and it was fast. Maybe she got some bruises when I grabbed her. (...) She didn't want to 'give it to me,' instead she j@rked me off. I don't know any more exactly what she said when she was j@king me off. But she kept saying no. 'Don't do it' -- 'I'm not like the others.' I apologized afterwards."

Do you not find all that a little bit suspect? Just a little bit?

She said no to what?

There are quite a few differences in that to the original translation of Ronaldo's statement that I read. Are you sure that those quotes are accurate?

You can spin it either way, why would anyone innocent pay a settlement instead of leaving it and likely being found not guilty.

Ultimately none of know what happened so it's best to just leave it and not call Ronaldo a rapist or the woman a liar.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's difficult without knowing more details but there can be really sensible reasons why a settlement would be reached.

Anyone who has done a bit of research on the Michael Jackson case relating to Chandler will understand why, in that case, a settlement figure was paid by his insurance company.

If a similar path was being taken in this case, pursuing a civil suit before a criminal case, it could well be for similar reasons. I haven't done much looking into this particular case though so I'm not saying they share any similarities just that particularly in the case of the media, the details surrounding any settlements or the reasons why can be reported really badly to fit the agenda they want.

Regarding the quotes, that clearly sounds and comes across very suspect but I'd like to properly understand the circumstances around it. From what I gather it was leaked from a football leaks source who supposedly hacked in and obtained it from his lawyers? It doesn't appear to be from a deposition or a police interview etc and until we properly understand how and where it came from, it's difficult to use in isolation. Not saying that it isn't but I don't even know if it's genuine.

Not sure really, that's what Der Spiegel published.

Think it's one of those things we'll never really know the answer to.

It's all weird because none of us has any idea what happened.
