We could buy two midfielders for that price to protect our defence. We could even, at a push, go a sort of three at the back with AWB and Shaw as the right and left CBs (not at the same time though) if we wanted a bit of extra protection in certain games.

Maguire is decent, and could offer a lot, but at £90m we'd then be making a massive rod for our own backs for other deals. I'd walk away and see how it goes. If we really want him and he really wants us he may make things difficult at Leicester and we could get him for a reduced fee. Otherwise let's explore other options.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly.

We could probably get ahold of Thiago Mendes, Florian Grillitsch and Alderweireld for £90m.

Newspaper talk.

Problem is there arent many alternatives.

30 mill plus Young, Rojo, Darmian, Jones, Sanchez and Lingard should be more than enough to secure the deal.

I take it no other big clubs on the continent are stupid enough to even entertain this idea of paying crazy money for Maguire?

Yeah it's just crazy money. £70m I'd have been fine with at a push but £90m is taking the Michael. He's not worth it.

Giving Tuanzebe his chance and pray Bailly can stay fit is looking likely.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
agreed. even at 70m you would have had your pants around your ankles. he is worth around 55m id say. 60m tops.

In all seriousness though I think he could turn out to be a good signing for us, people are underrating him a lot here. However 90 mill for a cb is mental money.

Today's fee are so silly it doesnt pay to try and apply logic to them.

Tbh Even in today's market, I won't pay a penny more than 30m for Maguire.

Really? He’s England’s best cb.

That 90 million could be better invested elsewhere on the pitch. And maybe some spare change afterwards too.

Not saying Maguire is cr@p, but not great. And definitely not worth in excess of £40 - 50 million. Even then, that's pushing it.

England's best cb in a three. Why that's being overlooked I don't know.

As I said on another thread though I suspect Ole is looking at what Maguire brings off the pitch as much as on it.

No club will get anywhere with cliques and poor attitude.

And that is supposed to mean what?

If Ed pays the exorbitant amounts being mooted, it'd be one of the worst moves in history.

Go on. Pay it.

Tierney now up to £45m

ffs

Other clubs on the continent have paid silly money for Di Maria, Coutinho and lots of others.

Could be Phelan’s influence as well. He coached him at Hull.

Grillitsch is an interesting one... Can ping a ball about, be interesting to see if a bigger club goes for him

His new contract took the cheap release fee out i think

I liked the look of Demirbay too but he's gone to Leverkusen

What If the manager wasnt though?

...............

Tough $hit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Wouldnt that be deemed not backing the manager though?

No.

Should Ed back the manager by bidding £90m OR not back him ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Such a cretinous question. If he doesnt offer this imbecile amount for Maguire, then that doesnt mean he is not backing the manager. It means he is finally copping on that United should not be taken to the cleaners by lowly clubs like Leicester.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why didnt that logic apply to Ed when Jose moaned ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He did back Jose with about 350 million pound feck sake, and then Jose starting slating the players he got and had you progressing backwards and throwing toys from his pram so Ed decided no more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not according to a lot of United fans on here
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Which ones? Bearing in mind I have only seen people accuse Ed of not backing Jose after he extended his contract which is correct.
