He was manager when it was all agreed back in November! I think both he and the club thought we would be in the PL next season and would have had an extra week to recover.

I also think there’s a lot of crap being printed about the club by internet based “news agencies”.

Funny because back in November he said this:

‘Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa said he is looking forward to the trip.

“I am pleased that we have been given the opportunity to take the team over to Australia to help us prepare for the 2019/20 season," he said.’

Absolutely F'ing ridicules, what on earth? Myanmar was thought provoking, Oz trip is beyond belief.

Takes longer than 3/4 days to recover, it’s about a day per hour time difference so not even fully adjusted before coming back and then going an extra hour ahead to Italy.

What a shame pitch is being relaid so we’re not playing anything at home.

Depends on how you travel. My flight delay ended up being 29 hours from doorstep to doorstep. Didn’t sleep a single wink on the planes. Came in slept 8 hours and I was up at sunrise to go for a walk. Can’t say the same for others who struggled to get up. Tomorrow up early for a 15 mile bike ride around rottnest. Obviously I’m not a pro athlete training for the season starting but I’ve have zero affect of jet lag coming this way. Hoping for the same when I get back as I’m straight back to work

Looking at the pictures they travelled business class. They should recover quite well having been able to sleep on the plane.

Whatever we moan about this trip was agreed back in November and Bielsa would have been asked for his input back then (when he was quoted as saying he was looking forward to the chance to play there).

If it’s true that Bielsa is not happy now then maybe he should have said something months ago.

Affects different people differently.

Went to Aus in Feb, absolutely fine when I got there.

Came back was absolutely fine for a day and a half then BANG dead to the world.

It’s all assumptions from Whelan anyway if you read the “quotes”.

Did you fly business? My son flies it to Thailand and back and says the difference is amazing on his jet lag.

I’ve done Oz and NZ via both Singapore and Hong Kong. Had no problems to be honest. Cattle class too.

Getting our excuses in early......
Seriously though, the only reason for this tour is ££££.
Any pretence that it is to sharpen the players up, pre season game against tough opposition blah blah. It is all about media and shirt sales

Travelling business class makes it easier to manage, but you are still asking athletes to be inactive for 60 hours, to breathe recycled air, to re-orient their sleep patterns and to eat poorly prepared food, all at the same time. Even if we had been promoted, this trip would still be a lousy idea.

I think he's talking about there and back. It's a lot of hours travel to do in a week or so for people who are not used to it. Plenty of data on how transmeridian travel impacts athletic, mental and emotional performance.

Then a few days after coming back they face a 5 hour or so trip again across another time zone to Cagliari.

I bet Bielsa much rather they were all here under much more controlled conditions able to put in the sessions instead of losing so much time to travel.

you would think the team would be doing everything in its power to prepare the players for the upcoming season in the best possible way.
if we come out of the blocks sluggish and lose a few early games it wont be worth the few pounds we will get in return.

Cagliari is 2.5 hours from Manchester and is hardly another time zone! It’s one hour in front of us!

Which shows how much those clowns running our club understand about what's best for our players - and our promotion hopes. It was this type of ignorance that led to our failure to buy Dan James in the January window - arguably the biggest single factor in our failure to go up.

Australia then Italy.... its stupid.

It’s the accumulative effect, business class or not. It’s the packing & unpacking, customs (they’re not exempt), family turbulence.... the negatives just go on.

One or the other, not both.

That's an hour drive to Manchester, an hour check in, then coach at other end, that's a five our trip, come on, stop being so stupid over this.

Yes, it's an hour in front, that is a different time zone, it affects the body clock, why do you make things so difficult.

Leeds should occasionally host a pre season tournament at ER. Have 3 local sides like Donny, Rotherham and Bradford with an overseas side joining in also.
