Is this Muric lad Pantillimon’s younger brother?

Clueless. Created nothing, had no idea how to press WBA. First defeat at home for 37 years on opening day, and we never looked like getting back into this.
Leeds away next, things don’t get any easier. Pressure will be on very quickly.

It already looks like it’s going to be a long, tough season - not sure how many of these imports are going to be up for it

Let’s not catastrophes. First game of the season against a decent team. Both goals a bit lucky/bad goal keeping errors. Let’s not judge based on 1 game.

We will be inconsistent. That’s pretty much a guarantee, that’s what happens when you sack managers and have the player turnover we have.

But some decent teams lost today who will still be up there at the end of the season.

Sam Johnstone didn’t make a single save in nearly 100 minutes of football, at least Muric made one decent save. We have no creativity, and very little goal threat, Grabban was awful, Lolley got the ‘hook’ and our best attacking option at the end was an 18 year old debutant, I am 100 percent behind giving youth a chance, but with a squad as big as ours, I would have expected more choice up front, where was Appiah ? It’s not a catastrophe, but it was pretty inept, and I don’t think WBA are anything special.

It wasn’t just that their goals were fortunate,
It was the fact that aside from the first 15 minutes they bossed you on your home turf. You look more like a side destined to struggle near the bottom than one that will do anything around the playoffs.

You looked better under MON in the last few games - and he wasn’t great

Obviously Muric disappointed. Grabban and Lolley were both poor. We definitely need another option on the wing and up front.

I thought Cash had a great game. Watson and him were playing it all over. Silva and Samedo looked more than decent. Semedo’s use of his pace and strength is impressive in full flight. Adamoah also.

Mir looks better than Bonatini already. Johnson looked decent and I thought the defence did alright.

Bar a goal keeping error and a fluke we’d have won that.

Another week on the training ground and hopefully competition for Grabban and Lolley to come in.

A narrow loss against West Brom at home with Adamoah, Muric, Semedo and Silva all making their debuts. I didn’t think it was too bad. Low expectations maybe.

To think that it wasn’t too bad, is more like No expectation. We are no further forward than under Karanka or MON, and I doubt SL will last the season. If Grabban is our only hope for goals, then we look in trouble. I certainly wouldn’t judge Muric on one game, and defensively we looked ok, that apart we were found wanting, much the same as the second half of last season. For that reason I just can’t see any improvement.

If the Greek is really after promotion this season it is clear he needs a proper option upfront to really push Grabban. From what I saw of it, Grabban is properly in his comfort zone knowing there is no striker currently in the squad likely to really push him.

I wonder if Lolley may be feeling a little sore that Villa didn’t come in with a deceive offer for him? Seemed a bit subdued and was trying to cross through their full backs rather than gaining that half a yard he managed regularly last season.

Early days yet but so much work for Lamouchi to do. It is clear the bloated squad is counter productive and probably stopping him from really revamping things.

If the Greek is really serious about promotion this season then he had better spend some money. Despite all the new arrivals I still think we are in the black regarding transfers. We need to trim the squad and add some quality and quickly. Judging by this evenings dismal effort, we will be mid table at very best.

No improvement than under MON? Maybe those last three games gave the beer goggles the old rose treatment.

The simple fact that MON isn’t in the same post code is a massive improvement. Why should we be further ahead of where we were under MON and AK? Sabri has only been in the job 5 weeks!

Grabban was like Grabban yesterday. Lazy. A good goal scoring record, but not enough effort, although the service wasn’t great. Grabban isn’t our only hope for goals. I think one of the reasons for the loss was an even poorer Lolley.

We do need another striker though. Ameobi, Appiah, Mir and Mighten aren’t experienced enough.

Personally, I’d have subbed Grabban and Lolley at half-time. Unfortunately, we don’t have the options on the bench to turn the games yet. Hopefully the end of the window brings a few surprises our way.

Why should we be any further ahead? Do you think sacking a manager 5 weeks before the season starts and buy 5-6 new players means instant improvement? This is a really difficult league, you can’t just walk it with a few half decent signings!

Poor game all round, but is that a massive surprise?

Early days for both teams so no reason for doom and gloom but also nothing to suggest we will challenge either!

I though it was a decent game actually, but without any real chances created. Two GK mistakes and a fluke for the goasl.

More positives than negatives.

Conceding two poor goals inside 26 minutes is one thing; but not managing to rescue anything from the game with sixty minutes to play and three subs to come on isn't a good start.

Didn't listen to the commentary, but I thought this guy was coaching a high pressing game?

Is this guy going to get any longer than MON did or the Breadman?
Because if he is subject to the same hire today fire tomorrow rules as the rest, I can't see him lasting until Christmas

Unless they manage to shift a lot of deadwood out of the squad by 8/8, I reckon this lad will receive as much time and patience as MoN and Karanka. The dead weights in the bomb squad will make sure of that.

They did play a pressing game. It is not possible though to play a high press for 90 minutes and after we scored we went to a conditional press which allowed WBA into our half too easily. Lolley and Adomah didn't offer too much help to our FBs; Robbo coped fairly well but Cashy was left exposed. (We will miss Ben Osborn in such situations).

With hindsight 4-1-4-1 may not have been the best formation. Grabban was isolated, and Watson played well enough but couldn't protect the FBs as well as the CBs.

4-2-3-1 or 3-5-2 next time out?
