I don’t know who you , dey do dat. I haven’t seen that story. Oh dear. These mix-ups are a combination of individual mistakes and the rush to do daycase surgery with minimum length of stay. It means that the checks are quite rushed and patients are wheeled in and out of surgery rapidly. There will be an investigation and blame apportioned. I have a story of a former anaesthetic colleague and injection of local anaesthetic block in an entirely inappropriate part of the body of a child. It concerned the word “frenulum” which can refer to different parts of the body. No harm resulted other than huge embarrassment and thankfully (for him) understanding parents.

Rooney will have shirt number 32. This fits in with the amazing deal with our shirt sponsors. You have to say that Mel has some nouse when it comes down to marketing.

I imagine this has been in discussion for quite a while. I can’t believe that Cocu was not aware of it at the time he agreed to join. You never know in football but it feels like a masterstroke to me. If we are challenging for promotion then this will be an injection of quality at just the right time of the season. Rooney has kept himself fit and dropping to the Championship shows a desire to continue to play for as long as he can. Obviously he is a different character to Dave Mackay and I hesitate to make comparisons with such a great man and player but many said Mackay was finished when he joined us. Other players of that era have said what a lift it gave them to have a player of that quality in the dressing room, one who had achieved everything in the game. Surely it can only be an inspiration to our current squad?

Yes and yes Vidal, But I remember how Frank's bringing in of Cole was expected to boost morale. I don't think it did though, mainly because he was well past his best when he came here on £10k/week. In fact he was well past it when he played at PP for Chelsea in a cup tie a couple of seasons earlier. However I expect Rooney can still play a bit. I hope he can and the mid season boost will be very welcome.

And! I can't help but smile that Stoke payed us £2m to take Rowatt off our hands and Chelsea £4m to take Frank - all to the good if Cocu fulfils his promise. I like very much what I have seen so far/

3R, Rooney is five years younger than Cole.

Well the real question is whether Wayne is the new Paul McGrath or the new Fabrizio Ravanelli.

Defenders tend to age better than strikers imho. Teddy Sheringham is the only exception to this general rule that I can come up with.

I can see some 20 minute cameos when we're behind and need to try something different, and maybe if he can turn half a dozen defeats into draws that could make the difference.

I'm actually more excited by what he does for us as a coach. Both because if he can pass any of the stardust on to our younger players that will be brilliant, and also the effect he may have on youngsters choice of which academy to join.

Of course being able to do it yourself doesn't necessarily mean you can teach someone else... but that's also something that being academically gifted doesn't help with either... you've either got the knack or not.

I've got a sneaking suspicion that he may surprise us all as a coach.

I expect he is on a fair wage (or unfair wage depending on your point of view) but Ronaldo's move to Juventus was almost self financing with the increased merchansdise sales and sponsorship.

Don't think we are quite "up there" with Juve on an awareness scale yet Spart, (happy to be proved wrong and they do still owe us from 1972)?

When Ronaldo went to Juve, it seemed every shop in Italy had #7 shirts hanging-up for sale.

Well it's made the sports news this morning here in New Zealand where people care more about tiddlywinks than "soccer" so I would say that worldwide exposure is definitely a thing from this.......

Not red through all posts, sorry. My understanding of the incomprehensible signing is:-

1.5 year deal, club has option to extend by another year.
Red 32 are sponsoring this deal by effectively paying his wages.
50% of his wages do not count towards FFP as he’s a ‘coach’.
We will be on TV virtually every game ((250k each time).
The clubs profile will go through the roof.
We will sell out every game.
Shirt sales and sponsorship will go mental. (He has
5 MILLION followers on twitter alone!)
Mell Morris is a genius and I want to have his children.

I'm trying to imagine the board meeting that led to this deal.
It's brave, ambitious, intelligent, interesting and let's be honest, pretty bloody amazing.

For me - that he won't join until January is key. We have to build on what we have - which is really promising anyway, and then (when we traditionally have a blip), have a real asset to help us finish well
