Football fans are kants. Why is this news to you?

posted on 7/8/19

Hate is a choice.

I’ve plenty of mates that are Liverpool fans and with most it’s just friendly banter.

I go to Hurling games where fans mix and it’s not quite the same. You need that bit of needle.

They're not though, are they?

Many are just normal people who if they went to the cricket, would be fine.

I know a few Welshmen - take them to the rugby and they're as good as gold. Take them to the football and they're hooligans.

It's so odd.

What is it about football that makes people so intolerant towards their rivals?
-----------------------
Fans like you, Winston, is the cause of that.

It adds something to the game. I love the tribalism of football as long as it’s not taken too far.

What is too far in your eyes?

Is shouting and swearing at players acceptable?

Are you using it as some sort of release? Curious to understand why you can't enjoy a football match without it.

I cannot stand going to football games these days. Too much vitriol, too much boozed up idiots thinking they can take the frustrations of their crap lives out on the players.

It's just depressing.

Never said I couldn’t enjoy it without it.

And I don’t mind people shouting abuse at games as long as it’s not racial or personal. And contrary to believe this happens in other sports too

Been to the Croker to a Gaelic Football match and fans mix as well. There is needle, if one team scores, fans next to you are cheering, sets of fans throw banter at each other.

Because its emotion, passion, release, all that, its part of the game. Its psychological as well, swearing relieves stress.

I'd survive just fine. I used to be a bit like that - although not extreme!

I just don't understand it, that's all. Why would you teach children to hate other football clubs? Madness.

The Process (U20671)

It happens but not nearly as much.

At cricket, rugby etc. rival fans can sit next to each other and have a beer. That tells you all you need to know about the difference.

Don't you find it kind of pathetic that football fans have to be penned in and are not allowed alcohol?

Okay, so now consider the young children sat within earshot.

Still acceptable?

Yes, I thought Sterling handles himself excellently. He has really matured.

You didnt ask if it was acceptable, you asked if you could enjoy a game without it. I am not going into a debate with you, because you will drag this on and keep moving goal posts after every reply and I dont have a week to spare for this.

Nope, I'll just have a reasonable discussion. You obviously can't handle that, so yes, please feel free not to comment.

Hate is a very strong word to use within the context of sport. It’s a game ffs.
How anyone hates another team is beyond me.
I love our rivalry with United but I don’t hate them but rather respect what they’ve achieved in recent times and that is what makes me want to beat them.
And the end of it all it’s only a game

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Absolutely.

We all get emotional when watching of course, but it needn't spill out into abuse.

I often go to games with friends in the home sections of their crowd.

Someone mentioned tribalism - that's exactly what it is.

It was class from Sterling, dont like the way he went about getting a transfer that lacked class but i dont hate him. Think it shows majority of fans boo him to try and unsettle them more than anything, gain their team an advantage they dont actually hate him etc.

As far as Raheems concerned i think hes always been a nice lad and the media for some reason are out to get him. They seem to target him for whatever reason, i bet the newspapers who printed crap about him avoided this one.

Booing is fine and it's all part of the panto isn't it, but look at the abuse at Chelsea last year.

That's not a one off... many players have grown men furiously shouting abuse every time they go to take a corner.

Winston
I’ve seen morons over here fighting in pubs after United and pool games.
Why?
What’s the point and what will it achieve?
If it affects you that much you may need to pick a different sport although the alcohol factor needs to be taken into consideration
