Spoke to an Arsenal friend of mine, Nketiah is highly rated and has done well in pre-season, he thinks he's a good prospect and will do well for us if we sign him. Played for England at every youth level (Clarke in comparison, also a forward, never been capped at any level).
May not work out but we are at the midnight hour.
Hopefully do better than Brown and that awful player from across the Penines.
Might even send him back in one piece.

And yes I am pe'ed off with the hierarchy for once again putting us in this position.

Kiko is still here because Bielsa rates him. He wants him playing this way.

Do we really believe that someone who is as meticulous in his planning and tactics for the outfield players is just fine with letting his keeper do whatever? Casilla is playing the way he's being asked to. Yes it's risky but any keeper that comes in will be asked to do the same.

That’s part true....bielsa ball requires a ball playing keeper. We play a high line so he needs to be aware of potentially intercepting through balls. It’s very possible, that they are asking him to come for corners (most keepers only leave their 6 yard box, for high floated corners) because we are a short team who struggle to defend set pieces. If so, we should forgive him the odd mistake.

However, it’s not the odd mistake. Bielsa doesn’t ask him to rush off his line when he should stay, he doesn’t ask him to flap at crosses he was never going to get to.

It’s not easy being a keeper in a bielsa team, but you need better judgement that Casilla has shown to date. Let’s hope he shows it going forward.

As for why he’s still here? Maybe they think he’s great. Maybe they know no one else is going to pay him 40k a week, so they’re stuck with him.

Just like Sanchez Watt then.

The only transfer we need is to get Orta the f Ll ck out of Leeds.

Youth prospects who came to Leeds........All were 21 years of age or younger and inexperienced.

Dont think a single one of these you could call a successful loan?

Andross Townend
Ross Barkley
Sanchez Watt
Jack Butland
Jake Livermore
Adam Johnson
Sam Vokes
Adam Smith
Connor Wickham

Jack Wilshere was capped at every level Sanchez Watt wasn't, if you are looking for a comparison, surely Wilshere is your man.

Fact is youth loans at Leeds United have failed.
Add in Baker and Brown last season and its a long lost of failed loans. Fair enough at times the club was in turmoil and the place was not set up for loans to express themselves but you would have thought some of those future stars to have made an impact.

We have had some success with loans. You can't simply dismiss every potential loan. It's a useful tool in the modern game.

You could criticise every form of transfer on the basis we've had more than a few donkeys over the years.

Every club makes mistakes. Our's appear to be more frequent only because it's our club.

Name a successful youth loan we have had Stevie........

All i have done is state historic facts. I am hopeful that if the Arsenal kid arrives hes will be enough but i would rather see us buy a championship proven player

I'm not dismissing your statement merely taking a more general view. There are those who decry any loan.

Dare say you could add Pennington to that list and the mercurial talent from the other side of the Pennines. The double barrelled youngster.

As I say, not a direct to your good self more a general statement.

Wasn't Adam Clayton a loanee to start with?

posted on 7/8/19

McCarthy wasn't bad either but was he no longer a youngster?

Jansson and Harrison were loanees.

Likely there are other successes, but cannot recall any and admittedly too lazy to go search for them.

Max Gradel was initially a loan if I remember rightly although he wasn’t a youth loan.

We’ve had well over 100 loanees since relegation.

It’s telling that we can think of one or two names at best of successes out of those and none of those were youth players.

For every Tammy Abraham there’s probably 99 other loans at clubs that come & go without notice. We just don’t see it as we’re generally not focussed on other clubs business.

Personally I would say our biggest loan successes were

Bartley
Gradel
Hulse
Ankergren

“Youth” loans

We have had over 100 loans since relegation probably s ugh as 120 now. Less than two handfuls been any good.

Can’t recall a successful under-21 yr old loan

Out of all the thousands of players that by the club’s admission they are monitoring at any one time, one has to ask which is a French div 2 youth 19 yr old keeper seem as the right choice for high pressure big crowd environment where the stakes are massive.

One factor really comes to mind, cost.

Kebab - you're the squad master of these boards mate, please can you do an article of the squad last season's to this season's - could be a good debate whether we're stonger / weaker / younger / older etc...

not so much about loans / wages, more playing standard / positions / cover - thinking the promotion push this season only, as essentially, thats what's going to be success / failure this season... winning games this season will have nothing to do with who is a loan, who's contract is running out, who's been an Orta signing, none of that rubbish

I'd do it myself mate but I'm no way as good as you at actual facts - I'll owe you one.. or buy you a pint at a meet up, or whatever
