Phenomenal signing for Carrington FC

Now all I have to look forwarsd to is the unveiling of Leandro Demaio for Spurs.

Apart from the obvious Carrington baloney he really did disapear when it comes down to football relevance.

We dodged a bullet there I feel.

Glad we got Bale instead. It's a shame that De Gea left though

Yeah, interesting looking back on his career. Obviously a phenomenally talented player but one who only seemed to deliver in certain conditions. He looked world class in flashes at Real Madrid but didn't make enough impact to avoid being unceremoniously shipped. Seemed to be the perfect player in the perfect context at Mourinho's Inter - but that's just two or three seasons. Sometimes sublime for the Netherlands. I always liked him more as a player than Arjen Robben (who I hated both for spurning us for the petrodollars and because his face and running style annoyed me) - but in retrospect Robben seems like the stand-out creative player of that Dutch generation in terms of individual achievements.

Tbf he was pretty instrumental in Jose’s treble season at Inter and also for Holland when they reached the WC final. Was also pretty decent for Real but became a victim of the club wanting fancy new toys. Did seem to move to Turkey a bit too early in his career but still a pretty impressive one.

All that is true. I didn't mean to be dismissive, but rather to note that the very high esteem I (and a lot of us) once held him in may have declined a bit in hindsight. Maybe more of a sense that he could have gone further than he did, given the talent.

In that WC he was excellent but I still think Robben was their most dangerous player. Less talent overall than Sneijder but that combination of pace and world class left foot were an awesome weapon.

Robben wasn't less talented than Sneijder. Arjen Robben is the best of his generation for the Dutch. I still remember his debut season for Chelsea where he and Duff where on the wings. Was the most gifted winger I had seen in English football.

Robben was a joy to watch and only got better with age. Incredible at the 2014 World Cup.

Sneijder spent what are normally conceived as peak years in Turkey. Good player but could have done much more.
