DPL vs Lincoln

A real test this. I suspect a wake up call as we're not a fully settled side yet, unlike Lincoln. So its 1-2 with Sterling or Ennis to score

Well, I'll have to rely on you guys for real match comments - 04:30 is a little early for me! (who invented these early games for League One?). As Charles Winchester on MASH would say, "There is only one 4:30 in a day, and this is not it!" Of course, if I wake-up, I'll stagger out of bed and turn my Mac on.
I think this game we will finally click as a team, and so I'm going with 3-1 to the good guys. If Sterling starts, I'll go for him for the first goal, otherwise Sadlier. (I see Marquis scored his first goal mid-week).
I think Lincoln's manager's outburst about the advantage we have was a little over the top - many times we've played teams who have had longer breaks. Maybe he is just a bad loser after losing on Tuesday.

Lincoln are full of confidence and running. They played some terrific football up to our penalty area throughout, but scored once from three shots on target. Our defence was superb throughout, and this week there was no giving the ball away. Anderson and John were rock solid in the middle. No sign of Ben Sheaf which meant Whiteman playing with Gomes in the middle, although at some points in the second half Gomes was defending as a CB. The Ennis goal was a collector's item. The first time he got the ball in front of him without a defender in the way he whacked it in, left-footed. Their equaliser was well taken, and although they had a couple of shots for penalties it wasn't their day. The winner owed everything to Sterling who simply would not let them have the ball on the goal-line. He grappled, wriggled, had a shot beaten out but wrestled the ball back and managed to cross it in from the rebound so Taylor could bundle it home. Excellent performance. The young lads are doing well.

Unfortunately, I had a long-term golf commitment which meant that I missed the opportunity to stream the game live, but the highlights show a fast, skilful team. With practically all of them 25 or under speed might be expected, but the skill on top of it earned the goals. I had thought Taylor was into his 30s, but he is only 27 and perhaps his goal yesterday, capitalising on Sterling’s close control, John’s strike last week and Ennis's fine breakaway opener is something we lacked in the centre last year - Kane and Wilks being exceptions. You wouldn’t call Marquis slow, but he usually needed time to gather himself and so many “sitters” were fluffed by him and others.

The Lincoln manager thought two fouls were penalties and it difficult to argue that Halliday's bundling over of their man early in the first half was outside the box. However, the only credible attempt to pull over their attacker by John in the second half where he got a yellow card was outside the box; the fall inside looked like simulation.

So perhaps we were a little fortunate, but an emerging force needs some good luck to maintain its self-confidence.

Looking at which teams have beaten/lost to others we have already played, there are no obvious grounds for believing that our league position is false, yet on the other hand I am still a little surprised that they have gelled as well as they have in such a short time.

Micky’s reference to MASH brings to mind that when we were in the US a couple of months ago, we frequently came across a TV channel which seemed exclusively devoted to episodes of MASH; the humour is time-less.

Personally, yesterday was the start of what I believe will be a brilliant season. I said at beginning of this season if Moore can get us some pace upfront we will surprise alot of teams. Our defence was solid apart from our right back who may well be our of the starting 11 if he doesn't sort himself out. At fault again for their goal.
Nice to see Lawler get an assist too. If it turns out that the big centre forward Moore has been after for a few weeks does sign this week, who will start, and, who will start on the bench.
Big decisions to be made from Moore, yet I'm getting more confident after every game. I think Copps will start less games and May will be a bench player.

As I did not get up, thanks for all the comments on the game - I've just seen the extended highlights. Donaldo, how was your iFollow quality watching the highlights? Mine was the worst so far - video quality was awful, and there was a brief interruption about once a minute. The same is happening with pre- and post-game interviews (at least with those the video quality is OK, it is just the break every minute or so). I did email Rovers' Media but have had no response.
That first goal by Ennis was amazing - I do not think I ever saw Marquis bring a ball down like that, have it immediately under control so he could turn his marker, and then fire an unstoppable shot. OK, may be it will turn out to be a flash-in-the-pan, so let's wait and see. If he is that good, Moore will have selection problems if he does land his Number 9. So far, the "kids from Wolves" are all right - what a birthday performance from Cameron John (if it was as good as the Free Press says - although the foul just outside the area was stupid).
At the start of the season, both full backs gave me nervous breakdowns (I know Hound quoted some successful tackle statics for Halladay in one game), but James seems to be improving, and goes forward in a similar way to Andrew. Halladay seems to have totally lost his way - stationery and switched-off for Lincoln's goal.
I'm much more confident for a good season than I expected to be at this stage - the longest undefeated start for many years. It should have been 5 games - I see Bolton lost 5-0 again.
Donaldo, Pauline, my wife, and I are MASH addicts. Memorable TV, an over-the-air channel, show two episodes of MASH Mon-Fri at 19:00. We usually watch them even though we saw most of them when first shown. However, when I was at my first company in the USA, I had a colleague who just would not watch MASH. He had spent two dreadful years over there and said "There was no humour in Korea" (of course he said "humor"!)

The iFollow extended highlights extended and extended, stopping every few seconds, although when I dipped into the whole-match broadcast it ran smoothly. My communication route has been to email the service providers principally and copied Rovers Media in. They have both responded, but obviously their efforts to put things right have not been entirely successful.

I do have a bit of a problem with my internet speed unfortunately which has made me slightly more cautious in my criticism.

I see Bolton Wanderers takeover fell through at the eleventh hour yesterday and they only have until tomorrow to sort it out.

I apologise for the lateness in collating the Fleetwood results which are now below with the Lincoln ones.

I think that we now have a wider range of potential scorers which we have to get used to - only Nookie put his faith in Ennis.

Several of us seem to lack belief in our new line-up with me are feeble-minded as any.
