Why do they need to vote for Van Dijk?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They don’t. That was my point. Just like they don’t need to vote for each other.

Time to pop across to the Spurs board?

UEFA made a few decisions today.

The champions league final in 2021 will be in St Petersburg, 2022 in Munich and 2023 at Wembley. The 2021 Europa League Final will be in Seville.

VAR will be introduced into the Europa League this season at the knockout stage.

A new third level European competition will be introduced next season - the Europa Conference League. This will contain 32 teams competing on 4 groups at the first stage and mostly be aimed at smaller football nations. England will have just one entrant, the Carabao Cup Winners. But if that team has finished high enough in the prem to qualify for the champions league or Europa League then it will go to the next highest team in the league. So 8th could be good enough.

The Football League have evidently made a decision too:
Due to EFL regulations, live audio commentary of Wolves’ Carabao Cup tie with Reading on Wednesday night will be available to supporters on wolves.co.uk at a cost of £2.50.
With the Carabao Cup being an EFL competition, Wolves are unfortunately unable to offer the club’s usual free service and are required to charge a fee to access audio commentary for matches featuring an EFL club.

Supporters can purchase a one-off commentary match pass to listen to Mikey Burrows and former Wolves full-back Andy Thompson, who will be broadcasting all the action live and uninterrupted from Molineux.

Personally I would rather pay £2.50 to not have to listen to Andy Thompson. Surely one of the most irritating pundits of all time.

Spurs are the most overhyped team in the Premier League. Never really rated them. Have a few good players who carry them.

Champions league finalists, over-hyped?

They appear to have some issues at the moment but they have some very good players and are a match for anyone on their day.

If you'd said Delle Alli is the most over hyped player in the Premier League, I would have agreed though.

Great result for the U21s last night, no idea how strong the Carlisle team was but all the same a great experience for our youngsters.

Had to chuckle at the quote from Rob Edwards though "There were a few people in the crowd tonight", which begs the question, what was was the rest of the crowd made up of?

Mind you, I have visited Carlisle on a couple of occasions and did encounter a number of strange lifeforms.

Yeah overhyped. Numerous teams have made the Champions League finals that aren't great. That Chelsea side that won it were poor. I remember Bayer Leverkusen making a final one year and being in a relegation battle the next.

Spurs regularly go on winless runs and are regularly carried by the likes of Kane, Son and Eriksen. The rest of their side is pretty average. Reckon they'll get found out properly this year.

I think it would be somewhat of an exaggeration to say a team that finishes 3rd and gets to the Champions League final is poor. Guess it depends what you are comparing them against.

But do agree that they have done so without a high number of quality players, which I guess gives credit to their manager. Although in the latter part of last season they were still getting big results without a fit Kane. They haven't invested much in new players in recent years though and as a consequence do have a high reliance on a small number of players and it may well be the case that they don't do quite as well this season. I would still think it would be quite a scalp if Wolves got results against them though.

I would be disappointed if we were not getting a result against Spurs at home to be honest.

I didn't say they were poor, just overhyped. Last year they were made out to be title challengers even though they had lost 5 games by Christmas. This year they were made out to be comfortable in the top 4 and I reckon they will struggle to do that. They are definitely overhyped and have got by with a few good players and a good manager carrying them.

I'd happily put money on both Arsenal and Leicester finishing above Spurs this season.

Great result for the U21s at Carlisle. I think the home team did leave some first teamers out but still an encouraging win and certainly Ashley Seal getting a hat trick catches the eye. He got a lot of goals for the U23s last season and I imagine there will be a lot of lower league teams wanting to take him on loan in January. Big strong lad and knows where the goal is

Looks like Nuno will field a much changed team tonight, with few of the team that started at Palace being in at the start tonight. Be interesting to see if Neves is selected after being left out at the weekend. Given who didn't get a game at Carlisle I could see a team of;

Ruddy
Bennett, Coady, Kilman
Sanderson, Jordao, Neves, Gibbs White, Vinagre
Cutrone, Neto

Nah. If he goes they will implode.

I reckon if Poch leaves Spurs soon and United act quickly and bring him in, United will finish in the top four ahead of Spurs too.

I can see Jose getting the Spurs job after Pockets leaves. They probably deserve each other..........

posted on 25/9/19

Spurs have done well for several years, a top four club throughout but certainly feels like they are coming to the end of this short era and with Poch probably finished very soon one way or another sen and Kane also probably going the same way it will be interesting to see where they go then.

Agree regarding the Champions League, nice honour but i have never felt it tells you who the best is, much as Liverpool are clearly a good side they are currently on a run in that competition where they have lost 7 of the last 16 games they have played but yet they are the 'champions of Europe'!?!?

posted on 25/9/19

Be interesting to see where Jose goes next. Seemed to have lost the plot in recent years, and the style of football his teams play seems outdated now. At his best he was a good results manager. But when the football played is so boring, if you aren't getting results then the support from the terraces and club goes away very quickly. Good as he has been I would hate to see him at Wolves

The thing is, although I am no fan of Mourinho or his style of play; a manager of his standing would probably help us bring in better quality players. Would we have been more likely to get deals for players like Ruben Dias and Franck Kessie over the line qith a manager with a higher reputation?

Mourinho is always a short term appointment, but if he can increase the clubs standing in that short term, it might not be a bad thing in a long term plan.
