Heard he was MOTM and not Willian...

Barkley has ruthlessly (and rightly) been removed from being the designated first-choice pen taker.
Quick action Frank

If there is any doubt that Barkley was first-choice pen taker, see pre-season...Barkley taking pen with Jorginho on the pitch.

Also unsurprisingly he is the main penalty taker, not Barkley

You didn't believe that nonsense after penaltygate did you Blarms!

Nice to see Jorginho getting some recognition this season!

I can believe it was a case of a couple of players wanting the spot after Haz left and Lamps auditioning them

Jorginho's always been a class penalty taker. Dunno why it would be anyone but him.

I think it was a case of Frank wrapping a Shield around Barkley to protect him myself Blarms, and I totally understand him doing that.

This.

It's nice to see people calming down where he's concerned/evaluating his performances MUCH more objectively. Having to defend decent to good performances last year because people didn't understand his role properly got really infuriating after awhile.

This season he's been alright so far. Not best suited to the withdrawn role in Frank's 4231 but he's got SO much ground to cover defensively in it. He needs a defensive structure built to allow him to play like a DLP/Regista with security to make his passes, so he'll always be a 433 player by default I imagine. Really good management by Sarri at Napoli to identify that early.

I like Jorginho, I never used to when he was Sarri's pet and got in the team when he shouldn't have, but his performances towards the end of last season and this, have won me over. Yesterday he mopped up so many situations that had been caused by the sloppy play of others in our team. He was our best player yesterday by a country mile.

Jorginho should have got motm regardless of the pen. He was putting out fires everywhere when the rest of the midfield was having the game pass them by. Very good leadership showing performance

Frankly we can field a hugely superior midfield to yesterday's one...which would give him more chance to be what he needs to be

Last season was very good considering it was his first season in the prem.

He was always one of our best midfielders, and I've never seen a Chelsea player so underrated by the fans.

Was a big critic in the early Sarri months...he got better...finished last season very strong.

I don't think Sarri's blatant nepotism did Jorginho any favours, there were times particularly in the early part of last season when he should have been left out a few times, but wasn't while others were scapegoated instead, but these days he is the go-to guy and clearly in the team on merit and should be one of the first names on the sheet. I love the way he never hides or doesn't want the ball (unlike some) even when he is being pressed near our goal he is still confident about playing his way out.

The only small critisicm I would have of him currently is that even though he does go in for tackles and doesn't pull out, he seems to be quite lightweight and doesn't clean the opponent out like say a Graham Roberts might have. Perhaps beefing him up in a gym would be the only way of combating that, I don't know.

Seriously, last season who should have been playing ahead of him? There weren't any other alternatives, and during his poor period he was still playing better than most of our midfield options.

He was always in the team on merit imo.

Summer69, was only nepotism in the sense Sarri had a specific way of playing and Jorginho was the only player we had who could play that critical role within his tactical framework up to standard. The exact same argument applies to Mount & Lampard, there's a very good chance he'll be untouchable this season because we don't have another CM/AM who presses how Lampard likes.

Sarri understood his system put too much strain on Jorginho which he why he wanted Parades in January, to give Jorginho a break/opposition a different kind of threat to deal with. The fault lies with Sarri's inflexibility regarding tactics, not his favoritism towards one player and certainly not on Jorginho for being overstretched.

Let’s not act like Jorginho was great all year though. He had a pretty poor few months mid season. If mount does the same then he should rightly be dropped too
