Does anyone know why Pereira nor Lingard were in the squad yesterday?

Solskjær on Pereira and Lingard: "There's more and more competition for places. Your standard has to improve."

Fernandes looks very promising. Graceful yet purposeful in possession; rarely looks hurried; tends to make the right decision in terms of passing or holding onto the ball; and seems to have a good “radar”, hence the knack of releasing passes accurately before you even know who he’s picked out. A touch of arrogance too - early days yet but lots to be pleased about so far.

On Greenwood: is he a more promising and more impactful player than Pereira? Absolutely. But they don’t really play the same role so I don’t necessarily see it as either/or between them. And we really don’t want to overplay him: so far, I think Solskjaer has got this just right.

Because he's been blessed with other options whilst juggling 3 comps and injuries too. Its called squad management. Only fault of Oles was not getting people in when releasing but we know that Ed would have played his part in that too.

Hard to drop them when you are struggling with injuries.

Its disappointing that Gomes hasn't had much of a chance. There must be something behind the scenes or in his game (maybe physique?) which is preventing Ole from giving him game time.

Not one to over enthuse about recently debuted players, but it is clear already that he is about a whole divisions level more capable than Herrera was ........

.... trouble is that that is still a pretty low thresh-hold to launch an OT career from.

Early days, but he has been better than expected so far

Was at the game and Bruno does look quality.

Hyperbole aside, he is just better than our other players. There were maybe three forward passes he played that didn’t find their man, and me and a few people commented that actually the pass wasn’t the issue, it’s that a better player would have made that run and made something out of it.

Looks a promising buy for sure.

Could say it better myself. He is still a frail bodied lad. He's 18. By 20 he should be an amazing contributor and stronger

Let's not get carried away. Statistically he's had z good start but I'd like to see him more involved in general play and make better use of the ball at times.

I remember a couple of cases where this happened, too. Fernandes had played a first time pass into space behind but our player wasn't anticipating it or already on the move. One instance was Greenwood in the first half.

With a bit more time, the players are going to know to start moving before Fernandes receives it as they'll know he can release the ball early and look to get them in. These are the fine margins that require a bit of time to get used to. It's also the major difference between playing with a player like Bruno who can spot and execute a dangerous first time pass forward versus playing with the likes of Pereira and Lingard who have to control the ball, take a touch a play a simple sideways pass. Attackers will likely now start making more runs with a player like Bruno than they otherwise would. Or in short, it's the difference between a genuinely quality player and an average one - the former makes those around him play better, the latter doesn't.

Agreed he needs to work on his link up, but as long as he can finish like he can, he's always going to be useful. In my dreams he is a supporting striker making late runs in the box and smacking shots from outside the box.

For now though if he just pops up with the odd goal or 10 a season, he is still massively useful to us considering we didn't pay anything for him.

With the Odeon loan, we don't need Mason as a impact sub. Good news for him and for club. And Bruno - a champagne player with real grit. I hope he continues to improve and he's exciting to watch. Does so many things well and isn't afraid to get scrappy. Timing was perfect, although he would certainly have been welcomed sooner. I'll not complain about that. He's been a fresh breath of air and a likeable chap.

If he “would certainly have been welcomed sooner” the timing can’t have been perfect, can it?

The fact he is likeable means nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Solskjaer and Mata are here because they’re “nice chaps” according to some fans’ descriptions.

We don’t have to converse with them, we don’t have to hear them saying anything substantial because they always tow the party line when they have interviews.
