We dominated the game and deserved to win, unfortunately our goalkeeper, playing due to injury of our first choice, rendering your comment nonsense in regards to full strength, made a mistake and this let them back in. They took full advantage of this. They stayed in the game, despite spending the whole game trying to keep the score down and reaped the rewards for their hard work and determination.
Full play to them. Can't be annoyed with the game as we did enough to win but sometimes games like this happen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You lost both legs. Best team went through. Your luck ran out tonight.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes we lost both legs, the best team went out. Liverpool were the team in red.
Anyhow fair play to Atletico, it's the one team I didn't want to face as even being the best team in Europe, they are the best at keeping teams out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry to burst your bubble baby but you are no longer the best team in Europe. That would require you to at least still be in the Champions League this current season and then go on and win it...

Weellllllllllll if the competition gets called off we would remain reigning champions for another season.
True, true and to be fair with all your players fit you are still undoubtedly one of the best teams in Europe.
Where on earth did Klopp find that goalkeeper?
I mark both goals 1 & 2 down tohis incompetence.
The second goal you had 3 defenders vs 2 attackers and a 4v2 if you include Adrian. Yet nobody cut off a straight simple pass by getting tight on Llorente.
1 Goal Adrian should have saved, 1 defence should have done better and the other was 50/50 defence/keeper imho.
It’s a fair criticism, and why I cannot stand Simeone and Mourinho. But it’s funny it happened to Liverpool so I won’t complain.
-------------------------------------------------
Was funny to me cos honestly since Klopp's moved away from a full on gegen style I've found them increasingly boring to watch. The over reliance on crosses, particularly in big games, is a bit much for me. Need a proper playmaker in midfield to become aesthetically better to watch for my purposes.
Saying I don't like their style is fine, that's Klopp having an opinion. Saying he can't understand why they play like they do, as if it's inferior, is pure saltiness.
What a shambolic performance!!
Pool had the tie sewn up at minute 94 and facked it all up!.
Oh yes... and why don't you get rid of that thug Henderson....no business being on a football pitch.
Total disgrace to the game.
Yeah Liverpool aren’t that great to watch anymore.
I get why he says that, Atleti don’t have to be as cowardly as they are. Yes they won, but to show no intent whatsoever until extra time to actually try and score a goal, with the players they have, is hard to understand. Especially given all the problems teams have been causing Liverpool in defence (in fact, for a lot of the season, they’ve just not punished them).

----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's inaccurate, they had some chances in the first half and Simeone subbed Diego Costa off in the second half to go more defensive because they were getting overrun too much...
One was a corner a through ball to Costa at the very start of the game. They continued to be overrun after the sub. Atleti refused to commit any men forward to attack for the vast majority of the game. They shouldn’t actually have to play like that with the players they have, that’s what Klopp is saying.
Though I’m sure he knows why they play like that, Simeone’s just a defensive priiiiiick and can’t coach attacking football. Much like Mourinho, except more defensive and still has his mojo.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's just not in their make up to play attacking football against big teams and with a 1-0 lead and no away goals conceded it's not what the tie called for from them in rhe second leg. Atletico have played this way for years against big teams, had they gone out to attack for 90 minutes they'd most likely be out now.
I know it’s not, the coach doesn’t want to that’s exactly my point. And there’s a middle ground between attacking for 90 minutes and defending for 90 minutes like they do.
Depends how you look at the game. They're used to defending in a narrow compact block anyway, this match was just an extremely low one to suffocate Mane & Salah, and they're used to dealing with crosses because of it on a regular basis. In a sense the tactics were actually bold because it encouraged a battle of Liverpool's greatest offensive weapon vs. their greatest defensive strength (one which they lost, conceded to two crosses).
Under a different manager they would be capable of playing a different way no doubt, got some really good passers in their midfield, but the way they play under Simeone isn't inferior or cowardly. They're damn good at it, so why not?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
That middle ground is fine if you are capable of controlling a game with possession or at least competing for regular possession but had they tried to do that at Anfield when it's not their strength and Liverpool had to score goals to progress it would have most likely been catastrophic for them. Although you may not like the way they did it they were never going to control that game with possession/attacking football, that would require a different manager as well as heavy investment in their squad to bring in the right type of players to do that, some of the current players could but not all, some are just too defensive minded, on top of that such a huge shift in style/tactics would take time to implement. The way they played and managed those two legs was the best way they could currently.

The overall disappointment last season when City pipped Pool to the title was there for all to see, the powers that be were not going to allow their darlings to miss out again. The same thing happened last season with their undeserved CL win.
