World cup style camps to finish PL?

If this goes ahead, it means we are out of the lockdown phase. Likely still in the social distancing phase though, so seems unlikely.

Maybe at that point, we will have testing kits and will know 100% that once you've had it, you are safe for a while.

All the signs are the PL are 100% determined to finish the season

TBF It would be great to have some sport on the box, even if its behind closed doors.

It’s a bit unfair to the teams who would normally benefit from home advantage.

Agreed, but what can you do? Behind closed doors is the only feasible way of finishing the season now I think. And if that is the case, then does it matter if we are playing at OT or Villa Park?

Brings the integrity of the league into question as it’s not a level playing field

I have no doubt that they are 100% determined. No doubt at all. But they won't have the final say and I think that realistically it won't happen, but fingers crossed it does.

This is actually one of the better ideas and will be great for the football fans as you are looking at 3 live games a day.

As long as TV companies and Sponsors are happy is what this measure is for.

I’m thinking more of the relegation clubs. They tend to bank on those home games against those around them and some will have had them, some won’t.

True but they can play us at Villa Park than Anfield. There is that benefit too.

I agree, but I think that the PL will be prepared to sacrifice that if they can get the season finished.

Its far worse fior the integrity of the league to not finish it.

Good read here, Miguel Delaney can be a it annoying at times but this is worth a read

Just can't see the government approving this. Saw something about it restarting at the beginning of May. Never going to happen.

I’m not saying don’t finish it. But I think it has to be on a level playing field. Clubs shouldn’t be playing with handicaps.

Yep, that is the next question.

I’m all for it, would be great fun to watch and dear god we need something during this lockdown. Whether it’s actually feasible is another question.

Regarding it not being fair on clubs who would have home advantage, how is it less fair than for example clubs like Sheffield United or Leicester who only have 9 games left and are looking at European football, which they probably won’t be looking at again next season. Would be wholly unfair on them to restart it, far less unfair to play behind closed doors

Agree with that. We have to get the league over the line if possible and behind closed doors is the only way. It isn't going to happen with full stadiums. Not for at least 6 months I reckon. And that just isn't going to happen.

posted on 31/3/20

Honestly I don’t even know if in 6 months time it’ll be good to go. That’s why everyone saying you have to draw a line across this season and start the next baffles me.

The season isn’t starting in August regardless of drawing a line across or not, or September. It’s probablt December before large gatherings are permitted.

And this season can be finished in a month or 3 weeks if they push, so just blast it out and away you go. Of course it won’t be completely fair but we’re living in crazy times where you have to make adjustments

90% of teams in the 5 top divisions will have a better home than away record and the reason for that is its an advantage to play on your own ground.

If a team are relegated by a point after having had to play a rival at a neutral ground (possibly without a crowd) when that rival had the reverse fixture at home they will be very upset.

Its a potential mine field and I can see relegation threatened clubs refusing to accept it.

If it is the only way to finish the season, they probably will accept it. Otherwise they lose the TV money and might go bust.
