If taxing the rich etc, is socialism then fine, please let's have it.
I don't care what name they call it socialism, communism, living like ants or whatever. Its what needs to happen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Always needs labels though. If you give something a simplistic label, it allows people like Black Starr to dismiss it without having any clue what's going on.
That's where the Tory propaganda machine have been so good. Give people simplistic soundbites they can repeat and they'll think they are knowledgeable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s not about labels - it’s about different schools of economic ideology. They have existed for decades - it’s about which economic ideal you believe in. It’s an age old debate
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is about labels. It is perfectly possible to have an amalgamation of both economic principles. It would also be possible to be innovative and have new ideas that have never been implemented before. However, it is much easier to say 'socialism bad' to anything that isn't the current model and has proven an effective strategy for the Tories.
It is genuinely quite amazing how Tory supporters and members of the public will blame anyone but the government for anything they deem wrong. even blaming a party that haven't been in power for 10 years, a trading block, an ideology that hasn't had power etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Unfortunately members of the general public were around in the late seventies and remember the last version of socialism that we had. It’s was an absolute disaster and any party that threatens to bring that back is met with resistance - and the tories play on that very effectively
I agree - you could have a dynamic economic strategy which incorporates a number of different schools and thoughts - but what Corbyn was suggesting was too closely aligned to the failures of previous administrations and too easy for the tories to play on that.
Corbyn wasn’t seen as radical - he was seen as an unwelcome blast from the past

And if I am - how is that any different to labour supporters who will blame everything to do with this crisis on the tories and capitalist policies?
Let’s face it - whatever happens from now on in, it will simply just continue fuelling the predictable political point scoring that’s been going on for years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You don't know how criticising an incumbent government who have been in power for 10 years is different from criticising a political party and ideology that are not in power is different?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So when the financial crash happened - labour got the blame. The tories used that to completely undermine them and construct a narrative about how unprepared we were and the level of borrowing we scale accordingly.
Whatever happens - the opposition and their supporters will use it to their advantage - to back us their ideology. That’s what I’m saying
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So your proof that you know the difference is still blaming Labour for something else?
The equivalent of what you are doing now, would be to blame the Tories for the 2008 economic crash (which was actually a global crash which neither party would be to blame for) and say it was their economic ideology that got us into it, because austerity was used in the recovery.

I don’t have any proof for anything - I have an opinion and am open to being challenged on that opinion and listening to others.
I’m referencing a previous administration being in government at a time when we last faced a global crisis. The opposition used that to form their narrative and to score political points. In time Labour will do exactly the same over this crisis - and their supporters are already doing it
It’s just depressing to see the same old battles just continuing over and over and over again. Makes me wish we could actually just tear up the political system we have and start again. Maybe this global pandemic will do just that
The trick the Tories have latched on to is making people on modest incomes think they are well-off.

I’m not that far right - he’s proper old school Tory.
I think we need to tear up the political and economic systems. The fact that the government turns to borrowing and bailing businesses out (much as happened with the banks in 2008), shows that the current economic model is not fit for purpose and completely fails to prepare us for a crisis.

Not sure you can really compare both though? Even before this crisis started, there were alarm bells all over the country crying for more funding directed to the NHS after more than 10 years of austerity and cuts.

OBR predicts the economy to shrink by a THIRD and unemployment to rise to 10%
Based on a 12 week lockdown and a further period of restrictions following.
Tell me THAT isn’t going to get political.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course it will. The Tories have spent the last 10 years kicking the economic football and talking about how they are the only party that can be trusted with the economy. They can not expect to given a free pass when we go into an economic depression.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolutely.
Then add the cost of Brexit on top
This is going to be an absolute disaster. ) :

And you’re loving every minute of it

Good time to get Brexit through for them. They can blame any negative impact on Covid19. There must be someone somewhere reviewing that strategy.

To be fair - the world hasn’t seen an economic shock like this since the Great Depression tamwolf. You can’t equally pretend nothing has happened either

I haven't pretended nothing has happened. Not sure where that has come from.

But it’s not an economic depression of their making is it? No more so than when labour got unfairly blamed for a global recession.
That’s what ms so facking depressing - watching everyone pile in over the last 20 years and I mean both sides.
Still - what a stroke of luck for Kier Starmer and the Labour Party from an economic perspective
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think a recession was inevitable in the coming years anyway and we were always going to be hit hard by it. Obviously not to this extent, but there were a number of indicators over the last year or so. Add in Brexit to the mix too, which would have given an economic shock.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nothing of this scale Tamwolf. Never before in recent history have you seen the world literally shut down for weeks. It’s completely unprecedented and the world will in all likelihood never be the same again

Devon, every post you put on here about Covid you ran away from every response. Even the measures ones.
You have no credibility.

I don't run away mate. Sometimes I just have to dip in and out as i am at work and when not, have 2 kids to care for.

No doubt about it, a dream excuse has presented itself as far as they are concerned.
