The only deflection here is VC trying to deflect away from his hero Boris

Classic whataboutery

........

Not really a deflection.

.........

Trump is doing a horrifically bad job. But that’s a separate debate. This article is called ‘Boris’ and the truth of the matter is that he’s facked up badly and bringing up other people to deflect the blame is stupid and unnecessary.

.....

Why is it a separate debate. You can’t throw in comparisons like Japan and Germany for doing a good job and then throw a hissy fit because I dare mention someone doing a worse job.

Classic Nobb there.

Regardless of Trump, Boris has not done well. I think there is general agreement we started the lockdown too late.
He was careless of his own health, so spent time in hospital rather than in charge
He does not have personal responsibility for equipment, but his government does. The latest advice whilst not as bad as some make out is not a model of clarity.
The numbers show our response could and should been better.
The casual lies in journalism, the bluster when campaigning will not do now he is in office.
He needs to learn this quickly, and use his undoubted intelligence to run the country well.

On a separate point, I don't believe Donald has the same intelligence.

When did I thrown in Germany and Japan before you mentioned Trump?

You came in out of nowhere and started talking about Trump in a debate Boris

So there are people doing a worse job than Boris? Big deal. That doesn’t mean Boris is doing a good job, far from it. It does however show that you will use any tactic to defend Boris. Classic VC.

There is a balance to be made between the economy and the virus.

The furloughing measures are necessary and welcome but costing us already more than the annual NHS budget.

Some firms are taking advantage. Many just using the furloughing to protect their profits etc when actually they should be using it as a last measure - It's kinda like how many people use the NHS. Its there. Its free. They abuse it without consequence.

The country needs to get back to work. Some people have been furloughed on the basis of the inability to access work (not able to work from home). As much of this as possible needs to stop, not just because its costing us billions but because it is also stalling the economy.

If the slogan is Stay At Home, then those who cannot work from home have a reason not to work but stay at home on 80% of pay.

If the slogan is as it is now, then the those who can work should, and employers should be putting in measures to ensure people can safely work.

To me the message is poorly expressed but i fully understand where it is coming from. It's all about starting an economic recovery and removing barriers/excuses preventing people from doing business.

This will be followed up by an announcement on furloughing, which will probably see that cut from 80% to 60% (in some sectors) to encourage employees to make sure they get back to work.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I rather he'd be blunt like you just did than the unclear political message. It's fine to me asking people to go back to work, as long as you provide the minimum safety for them to do so. You cannot ask people to go to work but saying avoid the public transport, it's impossible for most of people in big cities. Not to mention people who have kids cannot do so if the school stay closed.
Also, there was uncertainty about when to come back to work, Boris never set the deadline so lots of people assume it meant Monday, only to be corrected by Dominic Raab in a press update later.

That doesn’t mean Boris is doing a good jWon

....

No one has said he has.

No one seems to be doing a good job. 57% of the Japanese in a poll didn’t think their Govt was doing a good job.

The UKs crisis has been all about the spread.

Italy & Spain were hit hard, caught unawares somewhat and their hospitals were swamped, leading to massive death figures.

The UK hopsital have never been overrun in the same way. The capacity to treat people has always been there (one of the successes of our response), but despite this the figures are up at the evel of Spain & Italy.

This to me points at the spread of the disease being out of control, and the main factors contributing to this are:

- delayed lock down
- poor testing levels in the early weeks
- public ignoring the rules.

The first is as a result of their initial approach of herd immunity - Its a valid concept but has a very high death rate as a consequence.

The second really is the biggest failure IMO. Historic 'pandemic scenario testing' highlighted deficiencies in some of our preparedness, and in particular in PPE & testing capacity. As a result when it hit we were always catching up in terms of PPE & testing. I think Brexit has been such a massive thing that the eye wasn't on the ball, contributed to by austerity and that Tory ideology of shrinking the state.

What has been done since the crisis really hit has been as good as it could have been expected IMO, but the lack of preparedness undermined significantly our ability to respond better.

UK hospitals are only prioritising COVID patients only though. People who have got heart, cancer or any other illness have been put on hold until the wave of the virus is eased. That’s why you’ve got empty hospital beds. Why do people somehow discard this?

Strange that. They should be in their element bringing in draconian measures, but are instead being outdone by liberals like Jacinda Ardern.
