What a great day though.

I'd spent a 7 month tour in Afghanistan, only returning in April and so had only managed the Norwich home game all season before deploying in September, so I knew i wouldn't get a ticket.

A few mates were going without tickets with the hope of getting one there so I went with them. We couldn't get flights direct to Munich from anywhere in the Midlands or south so flew via Hamburg to Stuttgart and the hire car to Munchen.

Two of the lads had managed to get tickets but 3 of us hadn't and ended up in a bar in the Odenplaz area with a pub full of Northern Irish Chelsea.

We place went mad when the Drog headed the equaliser and totally erupted when the winning pen went in. Fantastic night!

As you probably can imagine ,what with having Bayern in-laws and the wife in attenance, I had to celebrate rather conservatively, didn't stop me getting drunk though !

Favourite game of all time by far. Unforgettable for any Chelsea fan.

The greatest thing about that night (IMO) was it being the culmination of one of the greatest football stories ever.

The amount of ups & downs between 2004-2012 in the CL that had poetic significance throughout the run was insane. The rivalries with Liverpool & Barcelona were so fitting being we were counter culture to the perceptions of what those clubs pride themselves on, to this day you still see Barcelona fans justifying the 2009 screwjob saying it was 'justice for football' (i.e. good triumphed over 'anti-football'. From our prospective of the story correcting the wrongs of both in such poetic circumstances was beyond satisfying

And lets not get started on all the unjustified and/or extremely unlucky exits.

I know I'm clearly ignorant & biased saying this, but the day Man City & PSG win their first Champions League's I can't imagine it being satisfying in the same way for them. They've waited longer than us since their takeovers but they've not had these mini-stories waved within their CL history, maybe PSG with their repetitive choking? I dunno, feels like we were blessed with an amazing narrative that had the perfect finish

Drogba taking the final penalty in Munich as well after not being able to do so in Moscow. It's ridiculous how everything played out.

DA, for me the game took on extra significance in that we were playing Bayern in what was a home fixture for them, with a team that was barely at 50% full strength and Gary Cahill barely fit.

It, for me remains one of the most resolute defensive performances I've ever seen, with an outcome that overcame all the odds!

Terry not being able to take one in Munich after missing the winning one in Moscow. The truly great stories have a bittersweet thread weaved in somewhere

Perhaps the greatest C/L performance of all time ! especially when everything that DA has mentioned,is taken into account.

Yeah Terry kind of got screwed over I guess. There was the whole dressing up in full kit joke as well. Not that he cares I'm sure

Perfect example of non-Chelsea fans believing that triumph was about one match or even one CL run. As I loosely outlined it was eight years in the making

I think non Chelsea fans probably know that Terry deserved to lift the trophy, it's just because it was him of all people that he got a bit of stick. I think more than taking the penalty, it was a shame he couldn't play in the final. He deserved to lead the team that day.

Probably right, general anti-Terry bias.

posted on 19/5/20

What's weird about the anti-Terry bias is the fact that Ryan Giggs did something much worse, yet I don't think he's anywhere near as hated as Terry.

posted on 19/5/20

I've never yet met a Terry hater, who would go up to him and insult him, shows the kind of little phannies they are !

The whole full kit jibe was a joke spun by idiots anyway.

He had qualified for his medal an rules dictated you had to be in kit!

Rooney went full kit off the bench for the league win that season, nigh a peep.

The entire 2011-12 season was really good, we weren't the only team that had stories climax, grudges settled.

Real & Mourinho knocked Barcelona off their pedestal, Juventus got their redemption after being relegated to Serie B, City winning the title the way they did was iconic to me as a natural so can't begin to imagine how they must've felt. Lot of good stuff that year, lots of drama & great teams.
