Football`s forgotten tragedy

It isn’t forgotten anymore which is commendable by Liverpool now. However they swept it under the carpet for years and didn’t issue a formal apology until 2000 which was/is poor.

Regarding justice, justice was not really had. The jail sentences were too short + the blanket ‘European ban’, while effective, Liverpool should have had a separate appropriate punishment as well. While all English clubs behaviours where shameful, they were the guilty party.

Lest we forget the OP was gleefully holding up a copy of a certain rag, with the caption that rag was right, the morning of the CL final.

Let’s not delude ourselves about the malice in this article and it’s purpose.

Just a shame he needs to stoop so low.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Correct. He had to remove his post and apologise after people found his work number in his Twitter.

It is a tragedy what happened but certainly not forgotten. In fact tragedy point scorers like the OP constantly keep us reminded about it.

Anyhow ignoring all that RIP to those who lost their lives at a game of football. It should never happen.

I’m happy to be wrong but can you provide evidence?

Fair points. I'd also add it's shocking that UEFA have never shown any remorse for choosing that stadium in the first place, given both clubs had concerns before the game and wanted it changed.

Correct. Also involuntary man slaughter sentences are between six months and five years under Italian Law, considering they didn't intend for a wall to fall down and kill people.

Didn't know that. That is a good point and to be fair they share responsibility surely?

It was a terrible tragedy and Billy is being insensitive using it as a stick to beat Liverpool fans with it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Have to agree with this.

If it's a copy and paste then it's less of an issue imo but judging by the comments, it doesn't seem to be.

Not surprising considering he held up the Sun, saying they were right, in regards to their false claim about Hillsborough. This is the type of person he is.

It is definitely a copy and paste. He isn't literate enough to write it.

The whole thing?

Bit different if he's just posting an article from another source to be fair.

Of course

In that case the maximum is two years.

“In 1989, after a five-month trial in Brussels, 14 of the 26 Liverpool supporters who stood trial were found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and given a three-year prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and each ended up serving about a year in total in behind bars. The remaining ten defendants were acquitted of manslaughter, but some had their £2,000 bail money confiscated, having been absent for part of the trial. And civil damages estimated at more than £5million were provisionally awarded to families of the Heysel victims against the convicted fans and the BFU.“

Why write this? Seriously, why?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why not? It is an anniversary. Would you not say do not write articles about Munich on similar anniversaries?

Both were tragedies, both were highly preventable. Firstly with Munich, the plane should never have tried to take off, and secondly with Heysal, if not for Hooligan Liverpool fans, there would have been no wall collapse.

The got justice you idiot. It's in your own article
----------------------------------------------------------------------
While the article is no doubt aimed at winding up a few Liverpool supporters and it could of been any English club in those days it just happened to be Liverpool, I dont know how you can think 18 months is justice for 39 deaths??
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah the law is funny and I guess there is a big difference between that and justice but none the less it's the law. It's not murder, just an appalling situation that should never have happened or gone ahead. The whole article is a contrdictory mess as per usual.

Sandy thinks a United fan writing an article about a tragedy involving United is the same as a Spurs fan notorious for his chip on the shoulder about LFC writing this.

Why did they ban English clubs in Europe rather than just banning the fans?
