ffs

how many times do i need to say this

the england cricket team is the representative team of the england and wales cricket board and not the country of england

the very fact that wales is included in the title should give you a clue that you do not have to be english born and bred

in this day and age it is extremely naive not to expect people to move around the world and why should a kid be restricted in the choice of which country he can play for just coz he was born in another country but has lived most of his life here

i think that the rules of nationality recognised by most of the world and known as jus soli and jus sanguis should be required reading before posting on these boards

most of the world, including the UK, recognises jus sanguis, which actually means that your birthplace does not define your nationality but your parentage

Indeed i find the hypocracy annoying to. Take the original thread starter. He backed England when it came to beating India. Now hes done two threads questioning England..England seem the only team willing to allow anyone from any background to play for the national team.. And that to me shows England dont have issues with anyone who wishes to play for this nation. I doubt the England selectors.Look at a player and say no hes from so and so place hes not going to be picked

Calm down, rich

I have no problem against it, please remember that. I just mentioned it because Cricinfo(specifically English journo's/fans) mentioned it.

I'll delete the article, if you wish.

I am right with Imran Tahir, am I not? Him playing for RSA is completley wrong!

posted on 28/9/11

Why is he? he chose to play for them..

posted on 28/9/11

Well he represented Pakistan A, learnt the most and the best part of his Cricket in Pakistan. Only represented RSA because he met and married a South African woman.

Had he met and married an English woman, he'd be playing for England now!

He wouldnt play for England.. As i doubt the England selectors would rate him. Which i dont either. Its fine taking wickets when your being attacked in ODI cricket. But in the longer form of the game he will be found out in my opinion.. Anway thats drifting off the subject.. Meaker as been chosen to play for England hes lived in England since he was 11.. So this to him is his country..

Yes, as with Prior, Strauss, Trott etc... Not with Imran Tahir!

I also praised them when they lost to WI's... I'll do the same, if they perform well in the winter and the new year.

Must admit I have just been on the sidelines during the last few days, reading only and not contributing to JA606. same old articles and comments, getting abit tedious.

Having said that I don’t think amir has any malice intent with this article. All the England players are eligible play for England, simple as that. Imran Tahir was rejected by Pakistan and good on him I say for playing for saffers. Quality player.

Neon – noticed you had an article up yesterday saying you are supporting Pakistan in the winter because some of the English fans put you on ignore and are “annoying” you….. Mate, you can shove your support. Don’t need you or want you backing Pakistan. Not in a million years! If Pakistan do beat England (ahem ahem) and you start your pointless threads/comments based on your rivals winning, then that would speak volumes of you…. Stick to India!!!

Back to the sidelines for me!!!

I have no issue with Irish players switching allegiances as they have no test status. However we all know South African are here for the money. Someone like Trott who was out celerbrating a South African series win against England in 2008 with the South African team and then plays for England. It doesnt feel right to me.

kash, when did greeting and shaking hands with an old team mate turn into a victory celebration? Trott and Harris played together at Western Province and Warwickshire.

Hope i'm just going by what Vaughen or was it Atherton comments. Darren Gough yesterday on Talksport was not very complimentary regarding the amount of South African born players in the England squad.

Trott was seen shaking the hand of Paul Harris and that's all. When Trott was picked for England this was raised and Vaughan said he had no problem with old friends greeting each other.

Maybe a player who was more patriotic would be a little less pleased for a fellow competitor?

Trott wasn't playing for England in 2008, and in any event it is common practice for players at the end of a game to shake hands and congratulate the winner.
Ginge I'm surprised at that comment coming from you. How do you know he was pleased for SA? are becoming just another Wum?
