Not sure why it's hard to understand. Roy Keane said he wouldn't make the bench of a top 4 team nowadays.
Rio wasn't a bad defender but had plenty of mistakes in him. Vidic was a better defender nowadays he'd get sent off a couple of times a season.
Over hyped. Not even united best CB's. VVD isn't perfect but he is far more complete than either of them.
Don't recall seeing rio or vidic nearly winning the ballon D'or....

Just makes me laugh how people look back with rose tinted glasses. Fergie went ballistic over his hesitation to attack the ball on a number of occasions. Nesta, cannavaro, ayala....all superior.
I'd even say rio only became decent when he had another good cb alongside him who could do the gritty defending. Good on the ball, read the game well but concentration issues and bit of a pu55y.
Soon as his pace went he deteriorated pretty fast and as for him in an England shirt.... but yeah other than that the best defender ever in the universe 😅

Trying to dismiss recognition from Ballon D'or seems far more nonsensical than a difference of opinion over whether he was world class or not. It's one of the main barometer's for elite players. Rio was only decent when vidic came a's he did the real defending.
Never looked one of the best defenders in the CL, didn't play in a solid England defence, without vidic he was no where near as effective. He was a defender that could play with the ball at his feet at a time it was rare in the PL.
English media/fans going OTT like we always do. How did England's team of world class players get on with Rio in defence? Exactly.
I don't expect united fans to say VVD is better than rio or visit but doesn't mean I can't giggle about it.
At the highest level in the CL he has done far better, and been more consistent, with a weaker partner.
The universe reference was me mocking the fact man u fans seem to refuse to accept he was a) over rated b) didn't excel at the highest level in the CL and c) refuse to accept any of his obvious weaknesses.
It's not like he's a Maldini or a Nesta, a real world class defender, lots of managers and journos/pundits have mentioned his flaws many times. You could tell he wasn't naturally a defender 100% which is why his prime years were such a small window.

Ferdinand was a world class player. However it's true that he made a load of mistakes throughout his career, which of course lessened in his later years. This may have been true of VVD also, I don't know as I barely saw him play before Liverpool signed him. His mistakes were often dopey clumsy mistakes.
I don't think he's overrated, he's rated by most as a world class player and he was a world class player.

OK I'll break it down as you ignore anything that torches your argument.
-someone states VVD is on the bench if Rio/Vidic are available
- I state he was over rated and not very physical and prone to boll*cking for this, and only good when Vidic arrived
- state VVD was 2nd in balloon D'or so clearly recognised athe a higher level and performed better at highest level- CL
- named several defenders of that time much better
- you respond you watched him loads and he was world class, balloon D'or isn't a good marker of quality (😅) and if he isn't world class I have no idea what I'm talking about.
- I reference fergie saying Vidic or Rio weren't world class...
Clearly at the time they played there were world class defenders, as I listed.
Clearly VVD is deemed world class noting recent CL performances and balloon D'or 2nd place.
Rio was great but not VVD. Not a natural defender but complimented by a good partner for his skillset, when the game was different, and that worked.
Don't tell someone to debate when you ignore most of what they say cos it doesn't fit your narrative.

depends what you base it on, if we're talking individual ability who even comes close? some of the best pl centre halfs at all time had atleast some weak areas, Terry pace and on the ball ability for example. If you're just judging them on medals won in a team sport sure.

Not sure why it's hard to understand. Roy Keane said he wouldn't make the bench of a top 4 team nowadays.
Rio wasn't a bad defender but had plenty of mistakes in him. Vidic was a better defender nowadays he'd get sent off a couple of times a season.
Over hyped. Not even united best CB's. VVD isn't perfect but he is far more complete than either of them.
Don't recall seeing rio or vidic nearly winning the ballon D'or....

Just makes me laugh how people look back with rose tinted glasses. Fergie went ballistic over his hesitation to attack the ball on a number of occasions. Nesta, cannavaro, ayala....all superior.
I'd even say rio only became decent when he had another good cb alongside him who could do the gritty defending. Good on the ball, read the game well but concentration issues and bit of a pu55y.
Soon as his pace went he deteriorated pretty fast and as for him in an England shirt.... but yeah other than that the best defender ever in the universe 😅

Trying to dismiss recognition from Ballon D'or seems far more nonsensical than a difference of opinion over whether he was world class or not. It's one of the main barometer's for elite players. Rio was only decent when vidic came a's he did the real defending.
Never looked one of the best defenders in the CL, didn't play in a solid England defence, without vidic he was no where near as effective. He was a defender that could play with the ball at his feet at a time it was rare in the PL.
English media/fans going OTT like we always do. How did England's team of world class players get on with Rio in defence? Exactly.
I don't expect united fans to say VVD is better than rio or visit but doesn't mean I can't giggle about it.
At the highest level in the CL he has done far better, and been more consistent, with a weaker partner.
The universe reference was me mocking the fact man u fans seem to refuse to accept he was a) over rated b) didn't excel at the highest level in the CL and c) refuse to accept any of his obvious weaknesses.
It's not like he's a Maldini or a Nesta, a real world class defender, lots of managers and journos/pundits have mentioned his flaws many times. You could tell he wasn't naturally a defender 100% which is why his prime years were such a small window.

Ferdinand was a world class player. However it's true that he made a load of mistakes throughout his career, which of course lessened in his later years. This may have been true of VVD also, I don't know as I barely saw him play before Liverpool signed him. His mistakes were often dopey clumsy mistakes.
I don't think he's overrated, he's rated by most as a world class player and he was a world class player.

OK I'll break it down as you ignore anything that torches your argument.
-someone states VVD is on the bench if Rio/Vidic are available
- I state he was over rated and not very physical and prone to boll*cking for this, and only good when Vidic arrived
- state VVD was 2nd in balloon D'or so clearly recognised athe a higher level and performed better at highest level- CL
- named several defenders of that time much better
- you respond you watched him loads and he was world class, balloon D'or isn't a good marker of quality (😅) and if he isn't world class I have no idea what I'm talking about.
- I reference fergie saying Vidic or Rio weren't world class...
Clearly at the time they played there were world class defenders, as I listed.
Clearly VVD is deemed world class noting recent CL performances and balloon D'or 2nd place.
Rio was great but not VVD. Not a natural defender but complimented by a good partner for his skillset, when the game was different, and that worked.
Don't tell someone to debate when you ignore most of what they say cos it doesn't fit your narrative.
If Roy Keane said he wouldn't make the bench at a top team nowadays as the games changed so much there is no way Rio would. Vidic I'd say maybe.
