Coincidence?

Rangers got two penalties because the ball hit the hands of two Motherwell players in the box.

In the case of those two pens you could argue it’s the rules that are keech not the refs.

Quoting some loon on SSB though 😩

Or is down to pressuring refs in the media?

Umm did you read the post? I said it was a coincidence therefor not questioning the validity of the penalties I was saying that people need to stop blaming sfa and ref conspiracy theories.

FWIW-agree, it’s just the way it’s panned out. Thought that Rangers first penalty, under the new rules, was a penalty. Thought the second one was more dubious-bit of a 50/50. Still won’t some from complaining right enough.

Never watched the game but I am certain both are soft penalties that wouldn't have gone against Rangers

You started by asking if it was a coincidence - therefore by the logic you outlined the question you were offering up was regarding the validity of the penalties.

You then gave your personal view on it.

I am just giving mine. I thought that was what you were looking for by creating a post?

I agree the conspiracy stuff is keech.

Obviously our refs are pretty good ash.

But the handball rule as it stands is brutal. And Madden applied the rule correctly today.

Have you seen the spurs one from today? It’s horrific.

The handball rule has become so far removed from the reason it was introduced in the first place - to stop players deliberately using their hands to gain an advantage.

I apologise if I misunderstood your post as it came across that I was saying the penalties were dubious and the SSB callers are worth quoting. As I say not seen the penalities and not questioning validity. Just a point that conspiracy theories tend to go both ways and everyone has their turn at getting bad decisions go for and against them.

Utter madness. I don’t think VAR itself is the problem, it’s the ridiculous way it’s being used. In principle I think VAR could be very good, but it’s farcical at the moment. Can only imagine the coont we’d make of it if we could afford it up here.

BTW Bruno Fernandes must be a shoo-in for the Golden Boot.

Aberdeen got two penalties and Leicester got 3 yesterday , is there a couple of other meltdowns going on elsewhere too or is it just in the west of Scotland and in Donegal ?

I don't see any meltdowns anywhere.

Are you quite unwell?

Thought the first pen against Motherwell was a wee bit harsh but the 2nd was a pen, every day of the week.

Thought Motherwell should have had 2 as well mind you.

Doubt it'd have had any real affect on the game, Rangers dominated Motherwell.

I’ll tell you another anomaly I’d like to fix by var. the ridiculous keeper an inch off his line getting the pen retaken but walls consistently a few feet over at direct free kick scoring opportunities not punished. The latter feels like a bigger transgression to me?

I’m with Crystal on this one. It’s a coincidence, nothing more. I find it all a bit cringeworthy. It’s common knowledge there will be refs there with team loyalties. But they’re doing a job and I’d guess they call the game as they see it rather than how they’d like to see it. And I like to believe that too. I’m not one for this conspiracy stuff.
Celtic continue to clean up on the trophies front because we do the business on the park. I understand why some fans will look at the ref to assign some blame. I was saying the same things back when Rangers were cleaning up trophies. It’s all part of the fun. I haven’t seen the challenges but I won’t throw any more doubt over them. I’m sure they were justified. We all know the rules make almost any contact in the box a foul, can we blame the ref for this? Not in my book.
I think if refs here used cards more to enforce rules it might help to improve the image of the game. Not at first of course. But as players realise dirty tackles and late challenges draw fouls, they’ll learn to use sense and cut out errors to avoid cards.
Nothing wrong with a couple of pens in a physical game in my book, provided the ref has been consistent to both teams as far as decisions go. Don’t think VAR is the answer to anything football related tbh.
