Scotland is to have 5-tiers. Can't help but think that if England had 5 we would have gone for 7!

Certainly do Ang. Can't get out much at the moment as they attached a medieval piece of torture equipment to my nether regions while I wait for the next installment of NHS.

Thought for the night....

Sibley does a nice line in driven corners. Replace Bird & Lawrences awful efforts with his and we might just increase our chances of a decent set piece 🤔

Imagine doing that with a dodgy keeper like Hamer!

Level 5 here, Birthday next week,no pubs, essential shops only, no unnecessary travel, compulsory Gogglebox on the telly, relying on Derby to be the ray of sunshine tomorrow, alas my hopes aren’t high.....

Seems like I must be one of the few - but I'm NOT calling for Cocu's head. I really think he inherited a pile of garbage from previous administrations and with no money he's having to deal in the bargain basement. Could / should we have more points on the table ? Yes, of course but on top of all that we've only had half a team due to injuries etc. These players are gradually getting fit and THAT will be the time to judge him. In all honesty I didn't expect the season to get going til November - so hope I'm proved correct.
Anyway, on to tonight. Who knows what will happen - 2 teams who have made bad starts. Dont know about the Reds as I dont watchem - but for me we should have at least have got something out of both the Watford and Udders games.
Shinnie is a "must" in midfield as we lost our way on Tuesday night when he went off. I'd start with Waghorn as the number 9 too. Bird for me does not get involved enough when Rooney isn't along side him and feel he needs a rest.

I don't want him gone but I think he isn't far from the point of no return. Defeats sap confidence and it might get to the point where something simply has to change and the reset button is pressed. Up to Morris of course. Without fans in the ground maybe Cocu will get more time: defeats = boos which always cranks up the pressure. There will be the Internet equivalent of booing of course but maybe Morris doesn't frequent sites like this one.

Morning all, good stuff Terry.

They don't read this site? Then what is the point of all the advice we offer!

I am quite sure that Mel ensures that all read it - or reads it for those who can't.

I am calling for Cocu's head. He has had over a season to look at the team. On paper the team looks much stronger than many teams above us. His style of play didn't excite the crowd when we had one. He doesn't play winning football, we don't win ugly or pretty. His job is to pick the team, coach the players to be better and motivate the players. I have seen no evidence that he is capable of any of those things.

Who do you suggest can replace him (that MM can afford)?

The players wouldn't be able to take the pee out of me though.

Wayne will be in charge very soon.

Post lockdown we had:

Forest (Draw)
WBA ( 2-0 loss)
Brentford (3-1 loss)
Cardiff (2-1 loss)
Leeds (3-1 loss)

Bar Cardiff possibly I 'realistically' saw us losing those games as the opposition had better squads, the momentum (good form) and as must win matches with most of these sides in the play offs or automatic spots they were the favourite to win. We've never as a club done well (in recent years) when under pressure to win when stakes are high.

Coming into 2020-2021 we've had a rubbish pre-season, lost practically all of our first team attack had a rejuvenated Reading and Blackburn to play, nicked a cracking result vs Norwich and if you consider the performances in our last two games we could have got a 1-1 in both games vs a very strong relegated Watford side and Huddersfield.

Can you honestly say that Cocu picked CKR as an attacking choice? After Jozwiak and Ibe we were linked to Wilson, Zahore, Austin etc.....doesn't this happen every season - a leak we're after a top player close to transfer window closing only to get someone disappointing in.

Cocu has blooded several young players in to the first XI who are not experienced at this level, will make mistakes and lose confidence when we lose games. You have highlighted we have lost several games so it's bound to affect the youth. What certain fans are reasonably suggesting is okay, it's not great, but now let's wait for the first team players to return, let's see how our missing attack allows the team to function.

A lot has been asked of Max Bird from June to October, excluding the four week break. He needs a rest. Wisdom and Clarke formed an excellent partnership in central defence, we hadn't lost in 5 games and suddenly we're leaking goals.

It doesn't take too much to identify what the problems are, what the causes are and whether or not they are a result of Philip Cocu's actions. He's been exceptionally unlucky, could have moaned about all of the issues but has just got on with it.

Newcastle fans had in the past felt they had a God given right to push for the title or cups, why? 'Because we're a big club.' I think some of our fans think along the same lines, but it doesn't work like that. We've been managed exceptionally poorly by MM since he took over in 2013 and if you look at the squads over the years, the money lost on all the players we've signed and released for free it's just outrageous.

It's now the Clough era - we have to rebuild a leaner, hungrier squad, with gems from the lower divisions. It's going to be an ugly season before it gets better. Cocu has shown he can build a youthful squad and win the title in Holland, it's a new challenge for him in a different country with a different style of football but surely he can be afforded our patience given what he's encountered in his short time with us.

"His job is to pick the team, coach the players to be better and motivate the players."

That may be what you think his job should be Spart, but you aren't his employer and Morris may well have other requirements in his job description. Reducing the wage bill and bringing young players into the team for starters. Morris may even have insisted on minimum numbers of the latter - there has been a strong suggestion of this in interviews. I would say that there is definitely evidence that Bird, Knight, Buchanan, Whittaker, Sibley and others have improved as players while Cocu has been in charge. It may well be the case that Morris has decided that these elements should take precedence over league position. Who knows? There might even be a bonus structure for Cocu depending on how many Academy products feature in the match day squad. We can't read Morris's mind and he isn't likely to tell us.
