Not sure if that is another victim of covid and people being generally fed up or because almost every article is invaded by fans of a particular club who ruin it with constant wumming.

The latter, Liverpool fans had ruined the site long before covid.

I don’t think it’s in decline but there’s certainly a circular motion feel to it, where the same old faces take over discussions that could otherwise be decent.
Whether it’s about sacking Ole, media bias against Spurs, or wherever, it just becomes boring.
Also, too many people come here to argue their entrenched view and have absolutely no intention of opening their mind. Very typical of social media though, so no fault of this site.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We’re all guilty of it to a point. Though most of us, myself included, are more argumentative/contradictory than anything else. But at least that comes under the debate side of things.
It’s the outright wums and those driven by bitterness that let the site down, they treat this site the same as Twitter and unfortunately they’re allowed to get away with it too often. The price of free speech I guess.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed, but I certainly wouldn’t include you in that group term.
I disagree with plenty on here but debate about a range of topics is a good thing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wasn’t trying to put myself in the group that are imo ruining the site, I was more saying that I’m kind of argumentative, which I can be in ‘real life’. But I don’t see it as a problem, at least it can keep debates going.
There are plenty on here who I guarantee would not act/speak the same way in real life as they do on here. They’re generally the ones who are ruining the site 👍

I agree with your observation, btw.
For a brain dump...If i was building a site from scratch knowing what i know now and how people behave online.
Users would have a rank scored by others based on how objectionable or engaging their content is perceived.
Articles would require pre-publication approval from a committee of those with a impeccable scoring.
Users would submit a comment to OP and request access to thread, both of which would need approved.
It would be a much purer much more troll adverse platform. As folk would live and die by their own conduct. Just my two cents. It would be more sterile for sure, but at least it would shackle folk into behaving like decent humans.
Id also use a key based authentication so you'd request an access key to use the site and youd get a code like"eee7e9157f81b2f6d471bf2c" and QR code to print/scan and that's a one shot deal. Lose it and you lose your account. No email registration, no date of birth.
Traffic is always a problem for forums/chatrooms/messageboards. They all suffer dwindling numbers after a while. It's what caused BBC 606 to die in the first place. Social media has killed them off.

I'll get ma coat.
This site isn't that bad. You don't know what you've got til its gone.
My two cents worth, one reason this place is special is because there is friction amongst fans of different clubs. The site
has already been sanitised enough and risks becoming a place where people get on threads, hold hands and sing kumbaya together and if you don't aingbthe same tune then you're off.
I honestly feel the site is paying for being over moderated, not under moderated.
Since introducing the filter, admin has still had to ban many posters. There is a clear complain culture among some cliques on this site that has contributed to the site being less colourful.
IMO, introducing the filter should have been the end of Admins involvement. If you don't like it you know where the filter is. This allows OPs to control threads as well as the proposals I've seen above.
The filter should work IMO and that should be that.

I agree. Having an effective complaining structure that actually works to get people banned only encourages complain culture and leads to more complains and therefore more bans. You complain, they get bumped off and the next day you complain at the drop of a hat, because it works. Its a vicious cycle/circle (whatever they call it). Just my opinion though.

Filters completely disrupt the flow of articles and you usually end up seeing the comments anyway, because of the reply feature.
The fact you want the site to be a ‘free for all’ says everything about why you use the site. Surely you’re just better off being on Twitter if all you’re bothered about is getting embroiled in arguments with fans of other clubs?
It's a bit pointless spending your time trying to write a decent article when it gets flooded with the usual suspects, usually from the same club, spouting the same old bollox.
I suppose being the only club with foreign owners and the only club to spend during the transfer windows makes us fair game.
It's a good job we never win anything and have never had major players injured l suppose.

Yes but if the OP has filtered they cant post.
Admins this wasn't a complaint against you or the way that you run the site. Pretty thankless task I would imagine so thank you for taking it on.
I think City and a few other clubs may have slightly older fans who really want to debate football, the strengths and weaknesses of their club and are happy to have that debate with fans of other clubs.
There are a number of fans who seem mainly to WUM and who are not interested in debate or discussion. It is true that a lot of these seem to come from one club, which I am not going to name but it has become tedious to the point that, as Boris says, it is hardly worth starting a thread. How often do we see the likes of Melts, Grated etc post these days? It's a bit pointless spending your time trying to write a decent article when it gets flooded with the usual suspects, usually from the same club, spouting the same old bollox.
I suppose being the only club with foreign owners and the only club to spend during the transfer windows makes us fair game.
It's a good job we never win anything and have never had major players injured l suppose.
