When they tried to buy the magpies it was toted about that they wanted Wenger in, but he has been out of it for a long time now.

If it's Rooney I'm done, he shouldn't even be starting never mind getting a handy leg up for a management job.

With the new owners I'm not sure ( although I'd be on board) that Paul Cook will a sexy enough name for them even though with the start we've had he'd probably get the best out of this squad.

My gut feeling is Steven Gerard or going down the foreign route again, Flores, Silva type.

I agree with what you have said about Cocu, Terry. I am sorry that it has not worked out for him, as I like him as a character. I wonder if he overthinks the opposition's game at times and the type of football that he tries to play is probably of too high a tariff for Championship players.
As regards a replacement, don't ask me, as I've hung my hat on some high profile failures in the past. I don't advocate Rooney though. He may have inspired fans as a player, but he hasn't done it for the players around him as a player/coach, and his personality certainly doesnt inspire me. I don't see him as Frank Mk ll in any way.
I'd be happy to take a punt on any of the candidates that Igor has mentioned though, cos he's a pretty good judge of character

If Mel were still in charge I'd put money on it being McClaren again, as he seems to have remained close to the club. With new owners it could be anybody.

As others have stated, I don't think Rooney has either the mental capability, nor communication skills to manage, and his skills were all instinctive, I doubt he understands them himself. From his performances he also doesn't understand how to break teams down. Putting him in charge I think would see us ending up with less points than a certain season we'd all rather forget.

Gerrard is doing well in a Mickey-Mouse league, with the best, and most expensive players at his disposal, it would be a the same gamble as picking a manager from the upper half of league 2..

We could probably prize away Giggs from Wales after his recent arrest, but I don't think we'd want to, he's done an uninspiring job there.

It might yet end up being McClaren if Mel puts a word in the new owners ear.

Darren Wassall not worthy of reconsideration? The experiments with foreign exotica haven't worked, we are supposedly about youth development and he is one of our own?

Please God, not Judas McClaren! The return was bad enough, can't have a third period of Return of the Mac.

No!

My main issue is If Rooney isn't given the role and somebody else is and things possibly turn difficult for the mabager( I hope not) then rumours would circulate again that Rooney is taking over.

Either he just takes over to get it over with , or we're left with this shadow until the day comes that he leaves for pastures new.

Rooney take over, gets it out the way.

Relegated.

Rooney leaves.

New manger.

Rinse.

Repeat

Derby way

I really think they will go for a big name, high profile chap and maybe keep Rooney on as either assistant or as an attacking coach or similar role, just for his big name value.
I think he has become very disillusioned with Cocu, but someone who has succeeded possibly elsewhere could make him tick again and possibly work.

Terry Hennesy. Sorry to point out that Paul Cook actually has a track record, whereas Wayne does not. Whether he would do better nobody knows. It is a thorny problem beyond my pay grade. Who would be a football club owner? Maybe Boris will be looking for a job soon

Well, it was a suggestion worth making. And not least from someone 12th or so in the prediction league.

But no! You are all so bloody convinced of your insider know-how. And just how right have any of you ever been about anything, ever!

Pah!!

Well, I've never been right, so a quid on Wassall it is !

As far as I know the DET has only reference Jamie Carragher’s opinion about Rooney rather than “tipping” him as such. Spart has long predicted it though so there must be a fair chance.

**********Come back Spart. F**k vidals***************

I’d be against it but what can you do but hope for the best? Maybe Wassall with Schteve as D.O.F. could work but could easily go the wrong way. The longer we wait the more chance there might be of sticking with Cocu which seemed impossible after Saturday.

I tell you what, if we stick with Cocu and he actually turns it round, we would all have to admit we know nowt.

Buchanan takes a throw in on the halfway line. He doesn’t throw it forwards, he throws it back to Clarke who under no pressure decides to pass it back to Marshall who doesn’t hit the ball up the field, but tries to pass it to the static Spart’s mate. It doesn’t reach Bellyache and Barnsley score. This sums up Cocu to a tee, hopeless backwards football which bores the fans and players. Nice bloke but useless.

No to Rooney, Wally3, Terry, Pulis and Keane. Yes to Gerrard, Howe or even Cook.

How have we got into this mess? I’m going to play that Smith’s song, Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now.

Has this Sheik actually got any money or is he a Maxwell?

Do you think it will happen?
A deal was agreed in princilple, but it seems to be dragging on after they said it would happenvery soon this week, so we should expect something soon or it could possibly die the death.

Hard to say. I agree that it seems to be dragging a bit. Maybe they're getting cold feet. Equally it could be the Derby Board are self isolating for 2 weeks due to the fact that Stephen Pearce the current Derby CEO tested positive...so that probably meant Mel has had to self isolate too. Who knows. Never a dull moment as a DCFC fan....

Its possible due to the outbreak of coronavirus with staff things have been delayed slightly. But it is (the takeover) looking bleak, I anticipated Cocu's sacking in the last week. Can't be a great environment for management, players right now.

VC10 - your suggestion of Gerrard is based on who you think we can realistically get? If so, absolutely no way would Gerrard give up the challange of pipping Celtic to the title to join our relegation battle.

Had Redknapp been a few years younger and still actively involved in football management I'd have considered him - he's got a record of splashing foreign owners cash with some success.

I used to like Rednapp and Lampard. Whoever we appoint I hope it's someone with a sense of humour, we've had too many dour merchants.

I think THAT has been a problem Tom, excluding Frank and Judas Mac

We've had:

Snooze fest Clough
Ostrich puncher Pearson
Paul choleric temperament Clement
Nice but dull Phil (Cocu)

Someone with a bit more life to them with be very welcome, so that you can enjoy listening to their interviews too. (I know he's not big on Derby fan's list but Holloway was good at this)

Tom, I wouldn't have "arry at any price. At Brum he bought about 14 players in one transfer window, presumably from one agent!!!£££ and I reckon he would bankrupt the fake Sheik.

Yes Gerrard would not come to us, he's like Frankie as he only really wants one job.

I hope we stick with Mel and Phil, let them get us out of the mess they've got us in. And my first bit of advice is to stop passing the ball back.

posted on 12/11/20

I do not imagine please taking advice from anyone or we would not be playing the way we do (crap)

Fine thanks Uncle and kind of you. No, only me being faux stroppy cos no one takes my footy points seriously.

And deep down inside, they are quite right. I mean Sammon! Come on!

Changing subjects slightly, anyone able to confirm that we played a friendly U23 vs Huddersfield winning 5-2?
