I honestly think that had we have paid say £35m for him his transfer would’ve worked out better for us (and him) than it has.
It wouldn’t in itself make him a better player, but it would at least relieve him of the weight of expectation - which is now obviously far higher than it should’ve been, mainly due to the amount we paid for him - I for one had never seen him kick a football before he joined us.
Sadly, after some of his appearances since joining us, wish that were still true.
He's getting that way, been so poor over all. It's not just about how much (although 70m is massive) it's also how much a club is paying. United or City can afford 70m flops, I'm not sure we can
I would honestly play him solely in the Europa now, and not even bring him back into the PL squad even when his ban is served.
Loan him out in January, somewhere without the pressure, somewhere he’ll play, somewhere he’ll be happy. Then try again next season. LaNS ‘n all that.

Keita is an excellent player who has fotness issues though, unlike Pepe who plays every game but is just pure dogsheet.
I think sometimes with flops you have to take into account (along with price paid, performances) the idea to sign them in the first place, to comprehensively assess the full floppiness index.
For players like Pepe the signing at the time wasn’t actually that baffling. Ok he only had one good season but it was a great one for Lille, scoring one in two, lots of big clubs after him. Did anyone predict he’d be this bad?
This is as opposed to flops who achieve all parameters of the floppiness index. Torres is still for me an iconic flop for price paid, his performances and the fact so many fans predicted he’d flop and questioned the signing at the time. He is sometimes saved by being rated a full flop due to some iconic moments and the perception he never gave up. But for me he’s still one of the biggest flops.

Pepe is so bad that people have stopped criticising Xhaka.
Pepe was actually playing better than Auba and Willian. It's unfortunate he got a stupid red card and that's all some people are now talking about.

He's lying you idiot. 😂 I've only been back for 5 mins and idiots are dragging my name through the dirt.
Pepe looks to be a confidence player. One who plays better when he is happy and smiling. Being in and out of the team cant be helping. Not starting games in the league is not helping either....especially when you see Willian who has been utter shyyytee start every game. It is poor man management by Arteta i feel who seems to have his favourites.
I would play Pepe in EL for now (no other choice with 3 match ban) and hope he performs. Then try him at easier (on paper) games home or away as without fans that is not really a major advantage now. He seems like a player who needs an arm around the shoulder rather than berating etc. The fact that he has been on social media bemoaning his lack of starts is worrying as it speaks to man management issues at the club. Add to that the Ozil situation (which when looking at how boring and poor we are going forward), there are things happening at the club that are affecting players without it being due to footballing reasons. Getting Cedric and Willian for example...those were decisions that I simply dont understand.
