It was the reason 7th was our ceiling. It is also the reason we struggled versus lower teams the previous seasons. It was why we needed to make a change to progress. You can continue to live in denial if you like, but the 343 system we have played has both its strengths and its flaws; whether you like it or not.

We should play the same bunch of s that played yesterday as a punishment.

I'd be concerned about an upset if we were playing league 1 or 2 opposition but we should be able to beat this lot with any team we put out. I was probably thinking the same back in 1986 mind.

Some progress. The back 4 experiment hasn't worked out for this group of players, as you say we need to bring in players that are better suited to that system but it would be disastrous to carry on as we are.

Don't be daft Tam, better to just not strive to be better, much better to stick not twist, you know, keep the likes of Lambert, McCarthy and co and never change the ol' faithful players.

I think we are going to struggle whatever we play at the moment as the entire spine of our team is the weakest it's been since our return to the top flight. The defence is weaker that it ever has been (Saiss was not a starter im our first season, now he is almost first choice). The midfield is worse off with Moutinho declining. We are without Jimenez to lead the line.

The games against West Ham and Burnley show that our problems are not currently limited to the 4 at the back formation.

If you offered me 7th this season I would bite your hands off. But it makes no sense at all to say 7th was our ceiling. In the first season we finished below Arsenal, in the second we finished above them but below Leicester. Who’s to say one season we couldn’t finish above both of them. In the first season we finished 14 points below Spurs, in the second season we were below them on goal difference.

Every system has its strengths and flaws. What’s important is to play a formation that suits the players available. Not to decide on a formation then try and fit the players into that system. I don’t care at all what system we play as long as its the one that gets the best out of the players.

So you're saying Nuno isnt getting the best out of the players then Spangles? That's quite negative. Doesn't that meet your criteria you listed the other day for wanting a manager sacked?

Yep, sounds like DJ has turned

It looks to me like Nuno has over estimated his players, assuming they would be able to adapt quickly to a new formation rather than they've lost faith in him.

posted on 18/1/21

The results in the differing formations do look pretty damning. We have played 9 league games now with 4 at the back. Won 1 drawn 3 lost 5. We have conceded the first goal in every one of those games and in total have conceded a total of 17

In the 10 league games we have played 3 at the back we have secured 16 points and conceded 12

So there’s little evidence that the change in formation has been beneficial. It’s the first time Nuno has been in a position where he has had such a poor run of results so we have to wait and see whether he can turn it around. I’m confident he will but I don’t think anyone’s going to be comfortable if we fall much below 14th, season of transition or not.

You have to remember the move to a back four coincided with our loss of Jiminez. with no proper option to take his place, it is inevitable teams will fell more comfortable taking the game to us.

Back four or back five, we would still lack a recognised goal scorer.

Agree with that amiga but to me if we are struggling to score then it’s even more important not to ship goals at the other end

Personally I couldn’t see where many goals were going to come from with this squad even before Raul got injured

Notice that Chorley are selling virtual tickets for this match. Basically you pay £10 to not go to watch the match

Small club suffering financially with supporters doing what they are supposed to do - supporting their club. Well done Chorley

I was supportive of the virtual ticket thin g and in fact nearly bought one before I saw them on social media getting in to bed with saturday's opponents in some unholy alliance against us.

Stuff of nightmares this, a stuffing by WBA followed by Chorley.

Not so fast Gem. Chorley carelessly responded to Albion posting a video of their win on Saturday with a little banter and now any Wolves fans that paid for a virtual ticket are in uproar and getting refunds.

As many are pointing out, plenty of better causes out there than Chorley who will be picking up a nice sum from this fixture.uplwntg of local non league sides in desperate need.

U23's away at Burnley and 0-0 after 67 mins. Team:-
3-5-2. Sondergaard, Lonwijk, Richards, Taylor, Cundle, Hesketh, Bueno, Matheson, Perry, Shabani, Corbeanu

Taylor off, Samuels on. More of a 3-4-3 now.

The virtual ticket thing was started by Marine in the last round which I thought was a genius piece of marketing to get 20 thousand people to part with a tenner to not watch a game. But then discovered it was actually a Spurs fan that had set it up, which shows that there are some generous souls still out there after all.

Not knocking them at all, although I would be interested to know how many they sell. Gather they usually get about 1,500 for a home game.

But they have already made about £250k from their cup run so far from tv and prize money. Big bucks for a club at their level

My bad. Perry off, Samuels on. Now Taylor off Hang Wan on. 0-0 82 mins.
