You can’t conjure that little with two of the five best attacking fullbacks in the world and the two best wide forwards over the last 24 months. You just can’t.

Of course you can. A team isn’t just the fullbacks and forwards, if your spine is completely disjointed through injury and having to play players in completely different roles then it’s highly likely you’re gonna struggle to play at a high standard. They’re also out of form, I doubt this is permanent.

If you knew anything about your own clubs history, that's just what Liverpool did in Europe for years, took the sting out the game, then turned the screw.

Yet you couldnt beat a team with no cbs

The champions couldn't beat a team managed by a PE teacher at home

We had no centre backs though. So your logic is moronic.

Just be honest. Utd are ordinary, pool are struggling with injuries. It is what is

We did have a full strength squad and Liverpool were missing their 2 best CBs and their 2 best CMs out of position. I’m pretty sure if/when they can get a full strength squad back and able to play anywhere near their best they’ll be a very different opponent.

I’m pretty sure Gomez and Matip combined is their 2nd choice CB and both were missing. Yes they had 9 of their best players starting but 2 were played out of position which makes a huge difference. If United had 2 key players having to play different roles that they rarely play I wouldn’t be expecting too much from them.

I find it strange how quickly fans seem to be forgetting how strong this Liverpool side can be when fully fit and in form.

It’d be an excuse if we’d seen a shambolic defensive performance from them today, but they were very solid at the back.

Their front seven (including the fullbacks) was almost full strength, and barring Thiago and the occasional moment from Shaqiri they looked very short of ideas.

tbf them last being "in form" is c. 12 months ago now, they were wobbling before lockdown, underwhelming afterwards (written off as the players not caring), and patchy this season too.

Yes they were good because they’re both very good players who would have been even better had they played in midfield and they had 2 of their best 3 CBs available.

Looks like a fishing expedition to me...... Not exactly a thought provoking article, is it?!

Personally I didn’t predict anything for today because I genuinely had no idea what was going to happen. I was hoping that playing a United team who were top would spark us into life, but it didn’t. We’re just in a massive rut, and struggling to get out of it. I think the players are overcompensating for our defensive problems, not attacking with the same confidence because they’re afraid of leaving the defence exposed. I don’t think it’s a conscious decision, just something that’s affecting all the players. I’ve said it loads of times, but we were always going to hit a wall at some stage after the levels we’ve been playing at for the last few years. It just unfortunate for us that events have conspired to multiply the problem.

One key player. Henderson looks more useful at the back than he is in midfield.

That midfield still had Wijnaldum and Thiago in there today, and it isn’t usually the job of the Liverpool midfield to create anyway.

I still don’t see how with Robertson, TAA, Mane, Salah and Thiago on the pitch you manage to create so few decent chances.

Thing is it's very rare to have a fully fit squad to chose from.

Liverpool started the season with first team 3 cbs to chose from and 2 of those are sicknotes(just look at Matip and Gomez injury records prior to this season).

With that in mind it's no ones fault but Liverpool's to start the season with those 3 to chose from. They deserve all what they are getting atm and shouldn't be afforded any excuses.

We didn’t park the bus, we were cautious because this is a huge game. With hindsight it’s easy to say we should have done better but pretty much most United fans including myself said we’d be delighted with a point and I still am even though we did have chances to win today.

Liverpool arent conceding many because teams are sitting back against us and thats fine. Our cbs arent overly exposed but not having vvd gomez in there effects the whole team.
