Is the discussion about it on the thread below not good enough?

Far too sensible and anyway there would be arguments about how unbiased the 3 person panel is

I think it's clear that the compliance system just isn't working right

I don't think it's clear which is part of the problem. It might be but we just don't know it?

This over analysis of every ref decision is killing the spirit of football imo.

We need less reviews and get back to just getting on with taking original ref calls on the chin.

Football fans have become such babies and all this stuff does is give our authorities another chance to showcase their incompetency.

Indeed, as has been said since the 20s, justice should not just be done but also be seen to be done.

Is this not exactly what Gordon Smith called for years ago to cut out simulation. All game incidents reviewed on a Monday morning. Or I suppose if someone could invent a system whereby the incidents were looked at and dealt with in real time, that would be better.

I've never really understood this kind of thinking to be honest mate

If refs are making mistakes, there should be means to rectify them and improve

Simply going "och it happens" does nothing to improve things....thing like the Henry handball against Ireland for instance can cost a country huge sums of money for instance...all because a red has made a huge fck up

Simply can't allow such things to happen in this day and age, we have the technology now...use it

By all means punish keech refs for keech decisions.

Seems to me that is what is overlooked here.

All the focus on the players - very little on the referee.

Wrong.

As for the Henry decision.

No amount of reviews can alter that nor prevent it from happening again

VAR would have disallowed it

I would happily have var. Still don't get why some don't like it.

I do think the offside thing feels like it needs clarity. I think an armpit or part of your torso can get you offside.

Leg or heid for me. Ridiculous handball rules need sorted too. Overall though it's a great thing.

In making the handball easier to adjudicate they've made some incidents seem unduly unfair.

Play of the month / Play for today back in the 60s / early 70s - would invariably be some gratuitous skud. There only was 3 channels and no remote controls so it was harder for your parents to hastily turn it over - brilliant!

VAR in its current incarnation in the Premier League, is far from perfect

But for me, the principal is correct, they just have to tweak the system

You very rarely hear anyone from rugby saying that the TMO is a $hite idea, they’ve been using it for 20 years and it works
